bodyweight stuff, SAQ, callisthenics, fartlek training, steady runs, box jumps

that puts you where you need to be, the weight training in the gym is for your own pleasure, not providing fitness for purpose which is what you require it seems
agree....

Re: Push, Pull, Legs any ideas?

OK, there is having a nice body and a functional body

At the moment you dont have the latter IN THE EYES OF THE ARMY

Benching, Deads and squats serve little purpose when you are doing military training, been there, done it and TBH wore the dunces T shirt for thinking it was applicable

have a read here

http://www.teenbodybuilding.com/brent5.htm

plenty of time when your through basic training to be who and what you want, for now just play the game and get your weight in check to tick the boxes

you will soon be brought into line if you have 'alternative agendas'

Are you suggesting running is a better method of weight loss than weights and cardio combined?

Never would I but this isnt what the thread is about. The thread has evolved into 'fitness for purpose' and for military training, SAQ, callistehincs and endurance work is what is required for Fitness for purpose. Weight loss nothing beats a combo of cardio and weights but this is a different goal

Reduced BMI
increased fitness for army
Pass selection

All of these point to fitness based work, not training for strength or aesthetics

Okay again, lets return to the issue made by the O.P. as opposed to you directing a thread where you want it to go.

Chris asked for a Push/Pull/Legs split.
Chris's issue is that his BMI is too high.
Chris says he can do everything else required to pass the entry exam barring the fact he is holding too much BF.
Chris is already doing Cardio and someone (who I don't know - the entry sargeant?) has advised him to do a Push/Pull/Legs split along with this.
Chris hasn't asked for everyone to to make him fit enough to pass the entry exam, just reduce his BMI.
I know from other posts that Chris is following a diet.

So to answer Chris's question there is a perfectly useful Push/Pull/Legs split in the link in my siggy.

Had Chris said "Lads I need to get fit for the army what do I do" then my reply would have been different - and would have followed a GPP style reply, of long distance running, interval training, tabatas, Pressups, Burpees, Chins, Jacks etc etc etc, but as Chris has provided information which confirms all he needs is a basic 3 day split to get a bit stronger and loose some chub to pass an entry example then I beleive I have fulfilled his criteria... Agreed...? :lift:

Its comments like this that make you sound an obnoxious cock my friend

I will leave you to offer your wisdom but bottom line 3 day splits are not suited for prime military training, that is from experience, but you crack on

Re: Push, Pull, Legs any ideas?

for army training do-running-up to 10ks some days others do,sprint jog intervals,as for gym work

i would only do chins, dips ,press ups as thats what youll be doing in basic training, the basic fitness is crap nowadays so if you got a headstart over the usual couch potato playstation generation your n.c.os will have a bit respect for you, especially if you help others on runs etc whentheyre whinging as they will be

Amigo I'm sure you are right. But sadly very few people would agree that, out of the pair of us, I'm the one who comes across sounding like an obnoxious cock.

I'll leave you to continue making your grandiose claims that you have been there, done it all and returned from 'Nam with a chick boy in tow.
