Form of squats

In the new gym i joined, at the moment there isnt a squat rack. They do have something which is similar to smith machine squats.

Its the same set up machine as standing calf raises, but you squat down with it on your shoulders. The base you are stood on is on a decline aswell.

Would these be better then smith machine squats ?

Re: Form of squats

There was something like this in my old gym in St Albans, and I used it in place of "regular" squats. It was quite good, but I found that the back rest gave me more opportunity to move heavier weights purely through leverage. Smith machine squats may not be the best for form, but in this instance there's probably not much between them.

Re: Form of squats

Join a proper gym, with a squat rack. FY Gym in Leigh has a good set up.
