Press variations

as we know we should change our exercise routines every few weeks to shock the muscle or however you want to word it

im just curious though, there are many workouts that are done with the barbell and/or dumbbell

just say i trained 8 weeks with a barbell for the bench press, would switching to dumbbells count as changing the exercise?

reason being, i cant see how else i can vary my chest exercises as such, i mean i could swop them for flyes, but surely thats a different exercise altogether?

p.s i dont only use bench press as an exercise in case it comes across like that

Re: Press variations

Barbell...

Wide grip, medium grip, close grip, reverse grip, elbows in, elbows out.

On...flat, incline, decline.

Dumbbells...

Palms fwd grip, neutral grip, elbows wide / back, elbows tucked / close.

On...flat, incline decline.

There's 30 variations right there, and yes, they all count as "different".

Cheers,

G

Re: Press variations

have you tryed hammer press with the db's?, like a cross between a flye and a press, palms facing forward , but down like a press alittle deeper then normal, then on the up , u get to really squeeze your pecs together,as your palms are facing each other and hold that squeeze for a sec or 2, try em see how you get on, i find they really hit the outer part of your pecs.

Re: Press variations

another option often forgotten is to switch what days you train your chest...train it on the day you usually do back and vice versa...
