![]() | Best weight to start with? What would you advise on the best weight for a beginner to start with? If it's difficult to advise me over the internet on what kgs to start with .. maybe an idea of how much of an effort they should be to lift in order to gain as much benefit as possible? |

if you can curl 100kg with 10 reps then do that if you can only do 2.5kg for 10 reps do that, theres no one set start weight

![]() | Re: Best weight to start with? Thanks, makes things alot clearer! One other thing .. I've been reading about different types of workouts for different muscles/body parts and I've no idea what the majority of things listed are (i.e Weighted Dips, Skull Crushers etc are like a foreign language at the moment lol). Is there a web site that will show me how to do each one? And more importantly, how to do them properly. |

| Cymru Wales Welsh Am Byth | Im only lifting on multi gym 49.5kg pull down bar 9 weights. Then chest arms 38.5kg with 7 weights. Then legs 24kg on 4 weights but Im going up 1 weight 5.5kg every week might not sound much but I started 3 months ago lifting hardly nothing and now Im making progress my multi gym only a 66kg stack with 12 weights at 5.5kg each at the start most could do was 4 or 5 but now Im nearly at 10 its only got 12 weights I thought I would never lift the lot but Im getting there now by next week its just what your comfy with and building things up the correct way like I am not over doing things. 2 months was learning alot about foods and supplements also getting correct routine going that suits me best and the last 3 weeks I got it more or less sorted out now so I can go up weight each week and train better and got things going well now. ![]() | Re: Best weight to start with? Did my first workout tonight consisting of flat bench press, incline bench press, dumbell flyes and skull crushers. I was aiming for 3 sets with 10 reps each leaving a gap of about 3 mins in between. I managed to do it with 10kg (which will probably sound hilarious to you all here, but nevermind lol) with flat bench press .. but then struggled with the rest. Did 3 sets of 10 - 8 - 8 with incline bench press. Dumbell flyes I did 3 sets of 8 - 8 - 8 but with 2.5kg on each dumbell (seemed to struggle the most with this one!). With skull crushers I did 3 sets of 8 - 7 - 7 with 5kg. Any thoughts/tips? No taking the p*ss either please ![]() |

| It's what you do on the outside that makes you | Re: Best weight to start with? i personally would focus on compounds for you at the moment, bench press is good, are you able to do deadlifts and squats etc perhaps you already got it in your routine and im jumping the gun no-one will mock the weight you are lifting mate! if you felt like you was lifting weights that wasn't 'comfortale' then you are doing good as you are starting now, you gains will go quickly, get a good diet behind you and you will easily double lifts if your working your muscles to the point of 'i cant do anymore or ill sh!t myself' then you are doing perfect, keep at it, lift hard and heavy and eat well keep us updated boyo!

![]() | Re: Best weight to start with? I do have some sort of routine worked out, legs will be done tomorrow ![]() Took me and my dad 3 hours to get the bench up by the way! (remember the one I pointed out in another thread a few days back? ) It was easier than I thought it would be to put together though. My diet is definitely improving too, I'm eating more now and getting more protein in me. By the end tonight I really couldn't do anymore, my arms were shaking when trying to lift lol. Have I got it right though that I complete one type of lift first before moving on to the another? (i.e do my 3 sets of flat bench presses before moving on to incline bench presses) Thanks again, you've given me quite a bit of advice to be fair to you mate |
