Muscle memory & giving it up for a while!

Hi,
For whatever reasons I have stopped lifting for 4 weeks now. Been training 2/3 times a week for 3 years and built a decent body, not big but you could tell I worked out and just finished a diet so was looking good.
My diet has gone to pot and I am not sure when I will get back to lifting, might be another month or two.

Has anyone on here given up for a while and how soon does your body go back to what it was before, I am noticing quite a difference now already.

If I start again in say 4 weeks on another bulker, how soon would you suggest I can get back what I had. Is it true about the muscle memory? I am still trying to stay fairly lean but the muscle looks like it is dissapearing!

Thanks

Yeah its ture about Muscle memory dude, they will learn again!! Just takes time, plus having time off will do them good, as they will be rested and repaired. Try and keep a good clean diet, and when you start lifting again it wont take long for them to remember.

I find this happens to me when i go on hols for 2 weeks, no lifting, no stress, total rest and booze. Ha.

when i get back to the gym after 2 weeks, im lifting no where near what i was before i went.

4 weeks away is almost nothing in the long term, especially if you have been training for many years. I have "stopped" training a few times, whether through injury or personal circumstances / loss of desire for it, and always get back to a certain level very rapidly.

Re: Muscle memory & giving it up for a while!

thanks for the posts guys, gives me a bit of confidence to get back what I had!
It's kind of wierd coming off the heavy protein though and I don't have to spend hours in the kitchen! just getting more relaxed about what I am eating but I still look at my watch every three hours and think I better eat something!
I just need a rest from the whole routine of things and then start back when I am mentally ready.
