Lower Back Ache

I find that after bent leg deads and squats (not in the same workout) my lower back aches for a day or two. I'm wondering is this due to poor form or a weak back? I'm squating about 10kg under b/w and deadlifting about 10kg over b/w. Perhaps I'm increasing my weights too fast??? Any input appreciated.

Personally I think my form is good, back is nice and straight and I push through the heels...

Thanks.

Re: Lower Back Ache

Yeah thats what I reckon. Should I do any lower back specific exercises on top of what I'm already doing or just stick with the squats and deads and let the strength in my back catch up? I alternate squats and deads every other day i.e squats, rest, deads, rest, squats, rest, etc + other exercises of course

Re: Lower Back Ache

or if your back is really hurting, then just do bodyweight hyperextensions to start with, add weight later as it strengthens

Re: Lower Back Ache

Make sure you nail the form for deadlifts! Watch every video you can find and ask for someone to video on your mobile so you can see for yourself where your faults lie. Done correctly its the best power builder there is but bad form can cause a lingering if not permanent injury. Start light and dont just assume good form. P.s this exercise will cause a degree of discomfort but noever pain when done correctly at the right weight.

Re: Lower Back Ache

Thanks for your input guys. I have always been told to be wary of lower back pains when bodybuilding, but it is an ache and not a pain. So I guess it is just my back working.

When adding direct lower back work, if I decide to, when and how often should I do them. Considering my back is aching from being worked already wouldn't adding extra exercise/s overtrain it?

I'll find a method to check my form for flaws too, just in case it is not as good as it feels.

Re: Lower Back Ache

Without Hijacking thread would anyone agree my little theory... When a Bicep for instance is workedout it swells, like any muscle, but it swells on its own surrounded by nothing so its fine.

When the lower back is worked, the lower back obviously surrounds a very sensitive area of the body and so this could maybe explain this? I know I get a little sore after deads but definatley know the difference in feeling between this and if I have pulled or dammaged something.

Re: Lower Back Ache

It is most definitely poor form on your part, both movements are very dependant of hip flexion and adduction to take the strain away from your lower back and onto the glutes/hams.

This is a great vid and I suggest everyone watch them all as they will teach you a lot.
