Difference Between Chin up and Pull up

Right, im really confused on this.
What is a chin up and what is a pull up ?

Ive been doing underhand pullups at shoulder width for my biceps and ive been doing over hand chin ups about door width for my lats.

Have i got this right ?

a pull= a chinup

a chinup= a pull up. kinda like push-up and press-up

both variations of the chinup or pullup whichever you want to call it work the lats and biceps when done correctly.

people will say that overhand chin ups make the lats wider not everyone agrees with this but thats one of the ideas floating around

I was taught the complete opposite. Either way your pulling, either way your pulling up to your chin, so lets call them pull chins w/ a grip variation and eliminate the confusion. We could start a trend and saturate the internet with this idea.

Re: Difference Between Chin up and Pull up

They are the same.
Pullup is you pull your self up to the bar.
A chin up is where you are when your chin is at the end of the lift.

In school they used to test us on these, for a good pull up you had to make it under your chin.
It is just there to show the depth of the lift.

Pullups are awesome, better than pulldowns.

Re: Difference Between Chin up and Pull up

Seems like i wasnt the only one unsure.

Anyway, i do overhand grip pullup to work my lats and underhand grip to do my biceps. Or is it the other way round ?

Yep, only one though. I just now had to try and make sure I could. I wouldn't want to in good faith lie to you all. Kinda sh1tty though I use to be able to do a sh1t load of them. Good thing I picked today to be my first day back in the gym after a 3 yr layoff, apperantly I need it.
