Question Training when tired... any opinions??

Just wondering what everyones thought are on training when you're really tired. After the easter hols I have another 4 weeks back at uni and don't really know how much training I should try to fit in.

I have really long hours (I'm not being a girl about a bit of hard work, 3-5 hours sleep is generally normal when I'm studying) so its hard to find the time, and once I get to the gym it can be pretty hard going cause I'm knackered.

How often would you suggest training and for how long??

Don't train if you're feeling that knackered honey.. It wouldn't do your body any good whatsoever. Apart from the fact you wouldnt put as much effort in if you were tired...

Not a good idea... I don't train unless im feeling 100% or maybe a bit less but you get what I'm saying.

I train when im tired. I am not expirienced enough to give advice I am only going by what I do. I think doing any kind of session is better than non. I just make it not as intense as I would normally.

I know how you feel with work commitments over xmas and my gym not being open I missed basicaly 2 weeks and to be honest I went back 4 weeks. As it took another 2-3 weeks to get back to where I was!

Yeah, hate that! I have plenty of time over the summer to get myself into better shape, then get back to uni and I'm a mess again!

Re: Training when tired... any opinions??

Sleep is really important for the body for a number of reasons. When training, its key for recovery. Honestly, I just couldnt operate on 3-5 hours sleep. One night perhaps but no more than that. No surprise that you dont have the energy. My concern would be if you trained on only 3 hours sleep you would be making yourself prone to injury.

Personally, I couldnt train for the 4 weeks you mention, unless perhaps I could fit something like walking in during the day as a break just to remain active.

So don't go weeks without doing anything! When I was doing 14 hour days I just ran for 10 mins everyday/ or other day depending on how I was feeling.

I found that by just doing 10 mins cardio a day made all the difference.

If I was exhausted though, I wouldn't train. No way. Body's telling you that it needs rest if you're exhausted!

Its pretty hard going, especially when you are marked on the work you do whilst sleep deprived!

If I manage to get weekends off in those 4 weeks I'll maybe just train then. Haven't been able to do so the past while cause weekends are no different to any other day with uni work!

Re: Training when tired... any opinions??

So are you finished when the 4 weeks are over? Or do you have a break and then at it again at some point? If you got weekends off, Id suggest having a damn good lie in on the first day! But perhaps a good session would help then also. I just thank studying that long cant be good

Re: Training when tired... any opinions??

hey taylzo , 3-5 hours kip is not enough!! im at uni and i had long long hours and a hard degree. and i still got a good 7.5-8.5 hours a night.

i was at uni from 9-6 mon - fri and i managed the gym aswell as study.

try get to bed for 10 then you get 9 hours assuming you have to get up at 6.

i would go to bed at 11 wake up at 7 gym for 7.45 uni for 9

the most inportant thing tho is sleep, how can you function witout it. i know you might think staying up studying is the best but it will be more usefull study if you study less and rest more.

good luck tho, i just cant help feeling sorry for you to i wud be a zombie on 3-5 hours.

From June to September I'll be working thankfully, so normal hours! Then back to uni for another year at the end of September!

I'm really busy atm as I have hand ins tomorrow (although you wouldn't think it cause i keep getting fed up and going online instead!), and my body is wrecked. I have a dodgy back anyway from the car accident and sitting at a computer for hours on end mangles it. I'm sore and stiff and one of my ribs keeps popping out which is never good!!

Re: Training when tired... any opinions??

I would put the training on hold and do a bit at the weekends if possible.

3-5 hours sleep isn't conductive to traning (or study for that matter)

Seriously what course are you doing? I don't remember it being that demanding time wise even when getting my head down for finals.

I do recall spending most of my time in the union bar the first year, a few hours a week the second year, and in the last the I had 1 solitary pint of lager lol

I am a zombie!

Frustrating as tutors know the workload is too much, and that we are up til all hours to get it done, but they don't care. Actually they seem to find it quite funny.

Doesn't seem to matter to them that no sleep or exercise is really bad for your health!
