My POV was more along the lines of - I want the most bang for my buck, so (Palms facing) pulldowns / heavy rows with good form while focusing on the movement absolutely tear my Bis to shreds. I did once try doing some light preacher curls after - I hit failure by rep six. And you don't need to get a duck bum like Cons by squatting.... ![]()

Again its all down to genetics, some people can get away with not training them, others cant, its an individual thing, and you have to work out what works best for yourself thro trail and error |

![]() Yea i see what you meen, guys like bob hofman would agree with you on the rows ect (however he seemed to think that it was the brancialas (dam my spelling) that took teh majoirty of the load with the row). I will try and dig out the article (its around the house somewhere). lol i hate preacher curls as well, never saw the point of them - but the cable variation is harsh. That said i do like doing the concentration curls at the end of the workouts. But leaving the bicep for now, stuff like close grip bench, skull crushers, behind the next tricep extentions, push downs. there all important for growth. I think they hit your arms in a diffrent way to say a heavy compound like a row for instance. Alright maby some get good triceps just from bench pressing but then generaly these peoples triceps naturaly take a masive amount of the load from pressing anyway... thus there chest will oods on be poor compaired to there shoulders/tricep. It seems to be a biomechanical thing. Thinking about it you often see fellas with realy empressive chest/back with poor delts/triceps. I guess if your not stimulating the muscle enough with the compounds (hell somthings got to be getting the shaft with all the muscles in the mix). then its nessarly. that wouldnt be for just the arms it would be for any muscle that seems to be getting the smaller part of the load.. Intresting points on this topic always good to see diffrent POV on the subject.:beer1:

![]() | Re: I've stopped doing direct bicep work... Am I mad? agree with the genetics point. If you are gifted in that you have small joints and loads of dense muscle fibres on your arms you are genetically predisposed to have a good set of massive shapely asthetic guns - without even having to pick up a dumbell. Other people can grind out rep after rep of perfect form isolation vbarbell curls and still have less that awesome arms. You can improve on what you have - you cant fight genetics - unless you plan on shoving igf mgf and all the rest of that type of peptide in you to create new satelite cells and muscle tissue growth. |

![]() | Re: I've stopped doing direct bicep work... Am I mad? GENETICS! That's it! For me my chest, shoulders and traps are just genetically large, granted years of powerlifting helped, but even after years of hardly lifting, they still stay large and strong. I never, ever train my traps and they are way disproportional to the rest of my body. I don't train my back too much and I know that this would normally make the traps suffer, but it comes down to genetics. My arms aren't small, anymore, but they are by no means large. I used to blast out 5 or 6 sets for 5 or 6 different excercises and they didn't grow a millimeter. Once I started going heavier on back, and just doing a few sets of bb curls, preacher curls, and maybe some inward hammer curls, they seem to be growing everytime I trained. I know I'm only 6' 3", but when you have sub-par arms and your tall, they look twice as skinny. But not overworking them, not overly cheating when you do, and good solid back training really helped me grow. |

Just seen this i have heard that from several girls "your ass is huge you walk like a duck" it never gets old![]() Talking of big arms i just got in from the clubs now had a heavy night of drinking water and i was laughing all night at the amount of bar room bbs who wear tight cloths and walk around trying so hard to look big by either never untensing their arm as they hold their beer or keeping the arm stretched out and triceps contracted at all time![]() Last edited by Con; 24-05-2008 at 08:59 AM. |
