Re: benching bar position

Personally, just below the nipple but everyone is different m8...Try just below and above the nipple to see what works best for you,as each to their own ...Have seem some people doing it nearer the top half of the chest but whatever suits you m8

Re: benching bar position

I like going to the neck with a wide grip on flat benches. This gives me a good stretch. But make sure you dont use too much weight as you would put too much stress on the shoulders

try a few weeks with each grip type & position, you will know which one works best for you then

Re: benching bar position

lol, i tried this today and felt it on the shoulders, so i have opted for a wide grip on the nipple felt a real good pull.

Perhaps its not such a good idea to recommend Wide Grip Guilotine Presses...

An experienced trainer may perhaps be able to use them correctly, most people on a public board will not

Re: benching bar position

i dont see a problem with them as long as people dont try to use too much weight or rush the reps.

Re: benching bar position

lol, true.

Then again I used to put too much on the bench and muscle it up instead of squeezing and working on the pecs themselves.

Took me 12 months to stop doing this....my chest (and shoulders) have thanked me ever since!

Re: benching bar position

Bringing it down just above the nipple area will produce a better stretch, I changed to these from doing them to tyhe nipple and I saw a marked improvement.

Bringing it down to the neck IMO is NOT the natural range of motion, just sit now and bring your arms out and pull them back, its quite dangerous tbh. T^he natty range bring it in just above the mid chest area.

Its certainly a fairly advanced exercise - and not to be recommended on open forums. Guaranteed some gym rat will try and bench his normal weight this way and end up injuring himself...

Alot of guys at my old gym did it this way (where I picked it up from) but like I say, I was told not to use too much weight and focus on nice slow reps.
