Which triceps exercise would you leave out?

... and don't say all of them, stick to compounds!!

Seriously I'm thinking:

Dips 3x8
Close Grip Bench Press 3x8
Skull Crushers 3x8
Cables Pushdown 3x8
Triceps Extension 3x8

This you'll doubtless agree is too much volume for the triceps so I'm looking either to cut out one or two of the less essential exercises, or maybe do a 2 week split of them. I could also cut down the sets or reps, just do a couple of sets of 5 or whatever. This stuff is all done after my main chest exercises, the bench presses.

Which ones would you focus on?

Stick to skulls & pushdowns.

Re: Which triceps exercise would you leave out?

Thanks for the suggestions. Contrary advice abounds!

I used to do press ups, dips, cables pushdown and triceps extensions but having read some of the beginners threads it seems the close grip bench press and skull crushers are better.

I've never done them before though so I'd need to work them in gradually. I'll try them and see how they work out. I hate doing the press ups after my chest routine and before my triceps stuff, they're a real struggle.

Re: Which triceps exercise would you leave out?

if you do pushdowns -you maybe pushdown 50-60lb-if you dip you do 2oolb or whatever bodyweight is- the best exercise for me is heavy 50k dumbell pullovers over bench-with hips down and shoulders resting on bench-kills the innner section

Re: Which triceps exercise would you leave out?

Hmm. It strikes me that skull crushers, triceps extensions and pullovers are basically the same exercise. The dumbbell pullovers have a greater range of motion than the barbell skull crushers, but they're both basically triceps extensions.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

All of the above will, in part, work the different 3 heads of the triceps.

Thats great if you are competeting bodybuilder who needs to focus on pure symmetry.

I'm guessing by the fact your asking the question that your not a BB'er.

In which case Close Grip Bench and Dips are going to be your two biggest mass builders as you'll be shifting the most weight.

If you really wanted to do an additional exercise then rotate Skull Crushers / Cables Pushdown / Rope Pulldown / Triceps Extension.

Similar to Bully - I only do 2 exercises for triceps (Dips and CGBP) as I don't have a day for arms... Then again I don't read Mens Health or do Tricep Kickbacks either...
