Second opinion?

I was talking to one of the trainers at the gym, and I asked what would be best for burning off body fat. He said to me 40 minutes of cardio would do it.

10 Minutes each on anything working as hard as I could, but do the first 10 minutes, then my weights, then the rest of the 30 minutes. Something about toned muscles burn calories quicker, but also said to if you burn 500cals or more, your body starts to burn burnt muscle?

He made sense at the time but now i'm starting to think about it and kinda worried weather to do it or not, i mean, i'm up for it, but just want a second opinion please?

What??!! sounds like he's confusing the issue really,

1)train on an as empty stomach as possible at a rate of roughly 60% your max heart rate ie, fast pace incline walk
2)Eat in a calorie deficit, ie...burn off more calories than you consume

= Lose weight

Re: Second opinion?

Hi Hun sorry i disagree with your trainer - what exactly are your goals - is it just to burn fat?

genesis training on an empty stomach is no more beneficial than at any other time - in fact it may do more harm than good as the body not only uses fat stores but also lean muscle and for bb that is a big no no!

Re: Second opinion?

Yeah cardio is what I'm on about, sorry, i didn't make it clear enough!

Not just burn fat, but I'm doing weights to give me some 'definition' in my body, not to bulk, no my balls haven't dropped far enough yet, but to get me cut a reasonable amount yeah.
And just to basically keep fit, I enjoy my time at the gym..

Agreed. Fasted cardio increases muscle catbolism.

Its generally, IMHO, AAS users which advocate fasted cardio, but they have at least 10x the normal dose of natural test running through their veins.

Fasted Cardio + Natural Trainer = Bad Idea.

I agree with this to a certain extent. IMO it depends how much body fat your carrying and what your ultimate goals are.

A newbie trainer with 20% + BF will really benefit (IMO) for the first few months of fasted cardio.

As you are moving towards a lower BF, then it inevitable that some muscle catbolism will occur.

do stepper/rowing/bike/treadmill at 65% of your maximum heart rate your maximum heart rate depends on your age.i use a heartrate monitor to check where i am and most machines have them on them to check your heartrate.

Re: Second opinion?

Do 12 mins HIIT after a workout, with maybe 30 mins steady state on a couple rest days.

HIIT:
steady state at 50% for 4 mins
30 secs 100% 30 secs rest
30 secs 100% 30 secs rest
30 secs 100% 30 secs rest
30 secs 100% 30 secs rest
steady state at 50% for 4 mins

After this you will be shattered but combine this with steady state and watch the fat melt away.
As long as you've got enough/not too many kcals.

Sounds far too complicated and too complex for my liking im affraid, good idea though i do think it'll work, but i suppose theres other methods? sorry

So at whatever I do within the 40 minutes of cardio i do all round, I should keep my heart rate at 65% from what it is at 100%, always? Would that keep me fit aswell? Because im just thinking i wouldn't be using my full potential so how would It keep me fit?

Re: Second opinion?

There is a rule that i have seen in a lot of mags lately, called the talk test, you should be able to carry on a conversation with someone while doing your cardio, if you can't you are going to hard.
i never to cardio and weights on the same day, when you do cardio your body is in an anarobic state which is good to strengthen and increase your stamina and cardiovascular system, but when you lift wieghts your body is in an anabolic state strengthening and rebuilding your muscle, which is why i seperate them.
i do 45 min on the tredmill in the morn, for every 5min i will walk for 2.5 min and run for 2.5 min.
lift in the evening.
