![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Whats more important : weight increase on the scales or the barbell ? Hi Ive been tracking my weight on both the scales and the barbell since xmas but have been tracking my weights on the barbell since about november. Im going for the add a little a week and have upped my bench from around 60k to 77.5k and squat from a similar 60k to 80k. These are all for 3 sets of 10 GOOD reps. Im not after increasing the weight and doing half reps. Anyway my weight on the scales isnt going aswell. Although to be honest Ive only been measuring for the last 3 weeks. I weigh myself every monday morning and its gone 12.2 12.0 and 12.0. Routine is a 3 day split, leg push and pull, compound movements but no deadlift as Im 6.1 and dont want to start without getting a pro in to show proper technique. Im also doing fair ammount of cardio. I run a 10k once a week in about 50 mins and 50 lengths in the pool none stop once a week. Eating Breaky : 8am 4 poached eggs 2 brown toast 11am 2 oatabix 1 scoop egg white 1 scoop whey in water 1pm meat, carbs, vege 4pm chicken fajita or 11am shake 6-7pm meat, carbs vege Train at 8:30- 9:00 for about 45mins to an hour 10:30 chicken cottage cheese or calcium casein shake What do you guys think? DO I need to up the food to start adding pounds on the scales or stick with this and see if it starts to pick up longer term, basically am I being impatient ? Cheers Last edited by irwit; 21-01-2008 at 10:38 AM. |

If you are getting stronger but not putting weight on - eat more calories, mainly from protein and good fats. The amount of cardio you are doing is great but its probably having an adverse effect on your weight gaining attempts. You could try reducing it a bit, if its not your priority. |

I've no interest in competing, so the scales are fairly insignificant to me, however I do check my weight now again out of curiosity. What really matters to me is how I look in the mirror & what is going on the bar. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Whats more important : weight increase on the scales or the barbell ? I think I might take Gymrats advice, calm down the the cardio over the next few weeks and increase the food, then if it still wont go up maybe go to a 2 day split. Cheers for the replies guys, much apprechiated ! |

| Getting bigger | Re: Whats more important : weight increase on the scales or the barbell ? IMO the bar is more important but I prefer to use the mirror against the scales. As said you dont want to be over training as this will hinder recovery which in turn will hinder growth but check the mirror as some time this will change for the better and the scales may stay around the same:) |
