How to start?

Hello everbody!
Have browsed this sight for a few weeks and have finally decided to take the plunge and join the general forum. Need some advice in how to train properly. I have a sporting background in that i regularly play sport (rugby) and cycle twice a week (about 60 miles in total). Over the years I have let it slip so I am really starting again. I have began a simple training plan given in the January issue of Mens Fitness which lasts 6 weeks. I am 6'04" and currently weigh 16 stone 4. However I have little tone, especially on my upper body, and wish to slim down but at the same time gain muscle mass. To say I am carrying a few pies around the middle is fair. I would be grateful of any advice about training programmes and diet.
Cheers

Re: How to start?

First things first - burn that edition of Men's Fitness.

Get down the gym and start squatting, standing presses, benching and deadlifting - heavy weights for sets of 5s.

Eat a healthy diet, no rubbish, not too many carbs after lunch, lots of protein and surpringly perhaps you can and should eat quite a bit of "healthy fats" from olive oil, fish and a supplement called Udo's oil. Only drink once a week, if you can manage it.

Stick with the biking, its going for you and will help with the fat loss.

That's about the order of it really.
