abs/obiques ?

evening all,
what i would like to know is how often do you train your abs/obiques and the exercises you rate the best.
to get that 6 pack look is mostly down to diet but surely you must train them as the same as any other body part.:lift::lift:
i currently do crunches and rope crunches of a multi gym,and side crunches.twice a week,4 sets of 20 on each exercise.
ive googled them and theres alot of variations,so i thought id ask the pro,s
thanks budgie:crazy::crazy:

Re: abs/obiques ?

I dont train abs directly.

Lots of guys with decent abs that dont train them .

Its all down to having a low b/f

Bodybuilders don't want thick obliques of course but we powerliftering folk need a strong core for the old squats. Saying that I honestly don't think its that easy to get really thick in the midrift - its more a question of genetics.

Old Fred "Dr Squat" Hatfield used to say, you can't fire a cannon ball out of a canoe, with reference to needing a thick and powerful midrift to perform the big squats he did - I think he's still one of the lightest guys to get a 1000lbs squat.

I've just started doing core work regularly again - reverse pulley crunches and then we did side bends with a 105lbs dumbbell, only 10 each side, four sets - its a fcuking killer beleive me...
