Gotta Change...

I have a problem, that problem is that I lack motivation in pretty much every area of my life. In short, I'm lazy to help myself and I really want this to change hence this thread/log.

My stats are...
5'11", 176lb, ~18%bf, 34" Waist
(Best I've been was 184lb at ~15%bf before falling off the wagon)
My goal is initially to bulk back upto ~185lb and then to recomp/lean bulk.

Diet wise I'll be aiming for 260g Pro, 300g CHO and around 80g Fats. I've not written a diet I'm 100% happy with so I'll post one up when/before I start logging. Worth noting that it ain't gonna be 6-8 small meals, it'll be 4-5 decent sized meals.

An example diet though,
6 Weetabix, 4 Whole Eggs, 8 Egg whites
100g Powder Oats, 50g Dextrose, 60g Whey
150g Pasta, 300g Tuna
150g Raw oats, 60g Whey (not happy with whey here, maybe cottage cheese instead or tasty and cheap alternative).

My workout routine will be 5x5, *3x3 (Dead/Squat/Heave/Dip/Off/*Compound/Off),
Deadlift, Stiff Leg Deadlift, Leg Curl, Calf Raise, 20:00 Running
Squat, Box Squat, Leg Extension, Calf Raise, 10:00 Rowing
Heave, Pull-Up, Hammer Curl, Calf Raise, 20:00 Cycling
Dip, Incline Bench, Skull Crusher, Calf Raise, 20:00 Step Machine
Deadlift, Squat, Heave, Dip

When do I start? Well, I don't know when my local gym is going to be open so let's say Boxing day at the earliest. Tomorrow I'm going to do a 2.8 mile run I came up with when I was training to get into the Army which works nicely at building determination plus it's funkin' freezing lately, bit of motivation to get running eh?

Oh and merry christmas UK-Muscle and co.

Re: Gotta Change...

Why am I not surprised that I've not got down to the gym this week? I'm even looking on gumtree to see if there's anyone around here needing a workout partner so that someone is depending on me (motivation to get to the gym).

Le ****ing Sigh.

Re: Gotta Change...

Mate, to be honest - if you can't motivate yourself, nothing will.

Pick a goal, one that is REALLY important to you and dont bloody stop until you've reached it. Other than that not much will help.

Having a training partner will help for a few months but as soon as he's gone sick once, and you two are mates you'll be bailing out left, right and centre.

Re: Gotta Change...

I'll be finishing work early on Saturday, I'll make my move for the gym then but for just now my runs are going okay (2.8m in 23:46). The goal thing is a tough one and you're totally right about the motivation problem, a lot of my motivation used to be the feeling during and after a workout. Any results were just a bonus.

Re: Gotta Change...

Got in a workout after work, it wasn't great or anything but at least I got my ass along there. It was too busy to do much but I got in 10 minutes of rowing to warmup and then 5 sets of stiff leg deadlift and 5 sets of leg curls. I asked the girl at reception when the quietest times are in the morning and she said "anytime in the afternoon", on the plus side if I get there ~9am I'll only have cardio fanatic "soccer-moms" to contend the room with. I figure I may aswell test it out tomorrow morning...

Re: Gotta Change...

You are 21 i see.Do you work? Are you still thinking of joining the Army?

Maybe doing so or similar(RAF/Navy/emergency services) may be the kick up the ar5e you need.

Not healthy to be so negative at your age.Get yourself goal and go for it!

Re: Gotta Change...

I work pretty much full-time in a grocery store. I had applied train as and become a Para, the interviews went well and I was told I'd probably be shipped off for ADSC asap but the medical doctor sent me a letter to say I can't join because MOD policy is to not employ people that have had brain hemorrhages (or something to that effect). I haven't challenged that decision but I'm now thinking I should at least try because it happened at birth and I've been fine since. Worth ~£60 doctors fees anyway.

I've applied to the Fire Brigade before and been turned down, I would apply to be an Ambulance Assistant Technician and work my way up but 1)The positions almost never come up and 2)I can't afford to go through the driving license test you need (C+D) to get the job.

Anyways, right now I'm just trying to keep my head above water and try to get a better job (or an equally crap job with better pay).

Added a back pic...

Your still young, you have your whole kife ahead of you,,,,
Once you get into a routine of training and eating well you will have more energy..
You have so much natural tesosterone in your body at your age that with a great diet and hard work you will soon look great.
Keep a positive attitude my freind and don't let a few knock backs put you down..

Try again!! alot of candidates are unsuccessfull first time and going for it again proves determination and spirit.

As for the Ambo service, some trusts will sponsor your test and it is repaid through installments from initial monthly wages, look into it.

Keep your chin up and best wishes(good physique by the way)

Re: Gotta Change...

Actually I was turned down...twice! Ahhh, I think they require the guys to wear contacts at least (to fit any head gear) but I've tried and just can't find anything comfortable (tried a few 'soft' ones for a week at a time each). The specsavers girls were worth the temporary uncomfort but I couldn't use them regularly, that lasek thing might be an idea.

Right, tomorrow I'll be doing tri/chest aka the two things I ain't got :lift:

Re: Gotta Change...

Mate, thats not a bad physique you have already, you look lean and have a good shape starting to come though so you had to be motivated to get this far. Set yourself small goals and reward yourself this will have a snowball effect and before you know it.............

With the job hunting, it is hunting, you need to apply, apply and apply again. Its not easy to land a good job you just have to keep applying and if you get a knock back just dust yourself off and apply again its shows determination. I dont know anyone who got a job they liked at the first attempt. Good luck just dont give up you will get what you want if you work for it. Happy Christmas

Re: Gotta Change...

Chest and tri together because I just want to blast them both together once, sometimes twice a week if I do that extra compounds only day. I don't really enjoy chest exercises...keeping them as compounds (dips, incline bench) means I can kill two birds with one stone and then if I want I can do some more later in the week. Ultimately I guess I just want to make it clear and simple for now even if any initial gains are slowed.

Cheers for the support fellas, if I'm not on the next couple of days- happy Hogmany.

Yeah, I had measured my bf% using 3 point skinfold (pec/ab/quad). I think the problem with that is that I carry more bf on my chest and ab than on my back, if I had done a 7 point skinfold then it probably would be nearer 14% like you think.
