![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | January... Well it's almost time for half the country to join a gym for 4 weeks... and for me to get back there after a couple of weeks off over Christmas. But I really need to get my ärse into shape and train right. I have been working out for about 5 years or so but to look at me, well, I'm still a fat bloke. Stats: Chest 48 Arms 17.5 ![]() Thigh 27 Waist 41 ![]() Weight - well, the last time I dared step on a scale I was about 118kg/260lb. Having been appropriately shouted at here on another thread about my crap routine, that is being sorted out and diet should be easy enough to crack. Any tips or motivation?

I don't weigh myself so that weight up there is a bit of a guess - I go by how my clothes fit. But in the last 2 years I've gone up a size (is this coincidental with my starting deadlifts?) and I need to reduce this belly. Perhaps I should forego the iron for a month and just do loads of cardio... or would that be training suicide?

Ahem... yes? :rolleye11 Well the training is OK, basic exercises with heavy but manageable weight, and I've taken advice from elsewhere on this board and cut back on the number of sets. Diet could be improved but it's not a complete disaster. Nothing isn't fixable... I just need slapped about a bit, I reckon.

Forget cardio , just watch your empty cals, the weight comes off on its own.

I've not done free bench press or squats for years and owing to a weak lower back my (smith) squat is barely over the 100 mark. But I get your drift though. Hit the basic moves hard(er) and see what happens.

Th main point about committing to any competition, powerlifting, bodybuilding or whatever is that is provides a huge motivation for training in the build up. If you are training on a Smith machine with 100kgs, you need to revise your training environment perhaps - at least I know I would have to. Good luck.
