work it on the basis that you need 1 to 1.5g of protein per lb of body weight in my honest opinion 1g is enough for the beginner!

Also though make sure you have got a balanced diet with carbs, protein and fats (good ones not saturated, e.g omega 3,6 and 9 and also things like nuts pulses etc)
