![]() | General Newbie Questions Hey there guys Im 16 and just started going to the weights room. Im trying to gain some serious mass. Im stumped rite now because I dnt know whether I should start off with a full body routine for like a month or two or get straight into a split routine. Ive also gotta ask about sets and reps. When I do an exercise, for example a leg press for 3 sets of 8 reps, do I set a weight that allows me do only 8 reps for the first set. If this is the case how can I possibly ever be able to complete the next two sets of 8 reps each with that weight. Also hypothetically if Im on a split routine and I have 2-3 exercises per muscle group wont I find it hard to complete 3 sets of 8 reps for all those exercises for that ONE muscle group. While Im resting from sets between an exercise could (should) I do another exercise. Sorry if this sounds extra stupid but im like real new. Thanks in advance. |

I would focus on the basics Incline Bench Press - (Flat bench places a lot of strain on shoulders) Squats Leg Curls BB Rows - (deadlifts are more advanced and best saved till later) SHoulder Press That should give you a good start. You can start adapting and breaking down the workouts after the first 12 weeks if you start to feel you can do more. See a sticky by BIG called 'how to grow' for more info

![]() | Re: General Newbie Questions I strongly suggest you start with Rippetoe's starting strength program. Google it and you'll get pleanty of results. It focus on solid compound lifts and is perfect for you. Do not perform another exercise while you are resting, what you are talking about there is called supersetting and you really don't need to be concerned with it at the moment. Start the program i've recommended, eat big and eat well and you'll start to pack on the pounds. |
