Re: will cardio affect muscle growth?

Everybody seems to overcomplicate things.

Old school bodybuilders didnt know all this sciency crap, they just ate food (bread, milk, cheese and all sorts of "forbidden" BB foods), trained hard with some real hard work, slept and grew!!! They looked better than most of todays circus freaks too! (No supps as such and far less drugs)

I think most recreational BB'ers take nutrition far too seriously, sure you need to eat adequately to grow and support recovery. But i think people look into it far too scientifically. Lots of todays strongmen/ powerlifters have more muscle than pretty much any BB and simple eat !! Sure they may carry a little extra bf, but big deal !!

Insulin spikes this, gi that. IMO most of it is a load of ****e!! Just use your nugget, everything in moderation.

Thats the Bully philosophy anyway

Re: will cardio affect muscle growth?

I agree with bully to an extent..

I keep things really simple (my diet plan is posted) people may say; well thats not the best source of such and such, or that amount of whatever shouldnt be here at this time etc......my theory is, i have a set amount pro/carbs/fats to hit. Thats what i do, aslong as im meeting my minimal needs i dont give a crap where its from or what time etc

I know some of the sciency stuff as iv'e had to study for some of it - and i enjoy it...how geeky lmao..

But, for the everyday BBer on the grand scale of things a little sugar and insulin wont hurt...hence why i've never used anything other than whole milk

When i contest prep, sure i'll be more careful, til then ill still eat 'heathily' for the most part but pig out too and not give a sh1t about having too many or too little carbs here.

Re: will cardio affect muscle growth?

I do agree with bully to an extent too.

But.......Oh that three letter word that changes the conversation
When you get older, your metabolism slows, your hormones decline, you will lose some muscle, bone, gain bodyfat, and you wont be able to eat the way you did when you were lets say "YOUR" age.

Trust me bull, I know first hand the ravages of aging, I have to constantly diet or I will pack on so much weight it isnt funny.
When I was 25 I used to eat a pint of Haggen Das every night and many beers and much food, If I even thought about that now it would just destroy me.

Back to carbs.
I have switched to fruits and vegetables for my carbs as of late, due to me gaining tooo much weight when my GF is cooking for me.
I was eating breads and crap and it packed it on big time. Her meals were more processed and higher carb foods.
Since I added the fruits and vegetables in my diet and dropped the calorie dense carbohydrate foods I am losing weight. I am taking in more fiber too.

So, you can debate science or what ever opinion on anything you want, but the hard facts is this.
If you want to lose weight you have to do something.
I dont fair well just dropping over all cals.
I fair better dropping the carbs, and the carbs I do eat are low GI.
This offers me a better hand at fat loss and I am not as hungry and less binge eating.

I'm not a fan either, and my opinion is largely based on the fact too many fast acting carbs PWO sends me to sleep.

A small can of fizzy pop (15g carbs) is about all I can handle if I need a quick PWO energy kick.

Then again my food/diet is more about how I feel than what I read - a bit like what bully was saying on the common sense/old time strong man thing.
