Re: will cardio affect muscle growth?

I am just going by where i have got my info from so it does not look like i am just coming on here and making things up!!!!

I am getting info from different sources and then bringing it on here isn't that what this board encourages you to do research and if in doubt about anything bring on here for discussion with people who know???????

Mate sometimes you have to take things with a pinch of salt.

In theory cardio could set us up for an early death, when we oxidise fat cells, free radicals are released - which harm cell membranes of the liver, muscles etc.

Im sure there's a really old book somewhere that claims exercise gicves you cancer, from the fact you oxidise fat cells, thus incresing free radicals etc....See what i mean, take it with a pinch of salt - the theory is there but theres minimal cases to back it up.

Most importantly chris, dont believe everything you read, you make reference to BBing.com, muscle n fitness etc - these companies make money from producing articles, if they told you everything correctly from the beginning they'd have nothing to write about...instead they like to contradict themselves!

And yep, that even means dismiss anything i say if it doesnt add up

Re: will cardio affect muscle growth?

lol cheers ah makes sense i guess, i think the best thing to do is read them and if i think that something sounds good or interesting or something then just put a post up on the board and get feed back!

BTW if you had to choose a mag then to read if it wasn't muscle and fitness or flex which mag would you get as i use to get mens health and another one like mens health but i found them a load of b9ll9cks and in the end when they came didn't even open them!

Re: will cardio affect muscle growth?

Mate,

We're both here to learn and help - hormonal and gear side, i dont have the foggiest, so im learning...nutrition side is my biggest interest and i've done/do loads of research on it, i still learn EVERYDAY.

Magazines i read 3 each month only;
The Beef
Muscular Development
Flex

MD is probably my fav, first time i bought it i didnt really think much of it but then i re-read it and it really does have a lot of info.

Re: will cardio affect muscle growth?

Well Chris, you are right in that spiking insulin is not the best of methods for trying to lose weight. Better said that the pancreas beta cells get burned out and pretty much stop working as well when one becomes type II diabetic.
But it is really insulin resistance that is the undrlying problem with type II. Too much insulin for too long causes this.

I think what you ment Chris when you said insufficient insulin spikes was actually too much insulin spiking.
If the insulin wasn’t enough to do its job like storage then one would be type II.
Excessive spiking causes insulin resistance and this is where the start of the problems come from Type II.
It is probably a combination of more processed foods, junk foods, simple sugars, poor lifestyle habbits, not enough fiber, not enough Omega 3’s, too many overall carbohydrates and overeating that is the problem and cause here.

I am myself not a big fan of fast acting carbs, but if you have to, then PWO would be the time and even that, I am totally not sold on. One is insulin sensitive post workout anyway and doesn’t even need fast acting carbs.

Another problem with spiking insulin is this.
When you eat some fast acting carbs, blood sugars rise, insulin rises to accomidate elivated blood sugar levels, and that meal can be stored as fat. Sure there is glycogen storing but too many carbs the muscles can only hold so much glcogen, this is done after the liver is filled (I think it is 70 grams). What happens next is a drop in blood sugar. Beings that the brain is the biggest glucose hog in the body, it signals for fuel, what happens next is a vicious circle.

Re: will cardio affect muscle growth?

I should have said that all is not lost.

If one takes on Omega 3's (aids in insulin sensitivity).
Reduces the simple sugars in the diet.
Adds fiber to each meal.
Eats smaller meals more often.
Exercises.
Add a protein in with each meal.
Avoid processed foods.

Becomming insulin resistance will be much harder.
Things like too much coffee can also cause one to be less insulin sensitive.

Re: will cardio affect muscle growth?

Thanks hacks thats what i meant its just that i worded it a little wrong lol

I remembered something along them lines last time we had a convo about something on another thread and thats where i got some of the initial info from and then i did a little more research on it, which is where funnily enough i came over GI as these 2 were linked as eating high GI foods causes spikes in the bodies insulin!

I then started reading about the effects and such things including diabetes/obesity etc!

The web is a great place to learn and its free but i tend to look like this :ranger: lol

Of course I do, that probably comes with age tho...lol
I often know what people mean but try to clarify things for others reading.

I like glossing over things that I learn as I have a terrible memory, this helps me to remember things.
Some times I have to go back and read for refreshment.

Cheers
