The basic principle is that you pick some sort of full body movement (I picked the rowing machine) and go all out for 20 seconds and rest for 10 seconds. Repeat for 4 minutes.

I thought it was really tough but I did complete it.

About 10 mins later I tried the same using burpies. Oh my god. It's on a different level. I managed 2 mins before I had to do some serious floor hugging. I was totally wiped out.

Has anyone else tried them. What are the variations and what's your experience of them.

Are you crazy mate? One set of tabatas on the concept rower kicks my ass at the end of a weights session.

But you thought you would have a go using another exersise just 10 mins later? Your either hardcore . . . or insane!!

No mate. This was on a cardio day. Not a weights day. And i'm far from hardcore I can assure you.
I might try it after a heavy weights day. I should prove interesting as I only do full body workouts at the moment. I'd better remember to bring in a sick bucket

I only do two full body workouts a week with tabatas on the concept rower afterwards. In the weights workout the 1st exersise is either Rest Pause squats or deads. So after doing the rest of the routine and then onto the rower is tough. Almost fall down the stairs of the gym on my way out of the cardio room

Re: Tabatas - or how to destroy your body in 4mins

I gave Tabatas a whirl on the rows yesterday after my sesh on the weights. It's a great workout I dread to think what heartrate it gives though, and when you're burning 1500calories an hour average thats a serious amount of energy consumed.

This will become part of my workouts and something i've suggested to all the lads at boxing (doing it with Burpies) thanks guys

Isnt it bad to intense cardio? Wouldnt it start to result in muscle catabolism?

Good effort mate. Tabatas burpies are very tough.

I tried something a bit different on the rower yesterday. I believe it's a HiiT type work out.

Basically, you do 2 mins of medium intensity and then 1 minute all out. Keep going until you fall off.
I managed 17 mins. Oh the joy of it. At least i'm not in the gym spending a hour on the running machine which is the main benefit to me.

Is Tabata just another form of HIIT?

Re: Tabatas - or how to destroy your body in 4mins

okay Tabatas is this

20s of intense exercise
10s rest

Done for 8 sets

i.e. on the rower, DB squats to overhead press (thrusters) etc etc etc

Its supposed to be the best form of cardio and promote an increase in natty test and GH
