Cardio / strength training with a difference

Does anybody here do any weird type of training?? i.e not the norm??

In the last few months i have been doing a few different things which are great i think, and good fun and keep things interesting. So thought i would share and see if im the only weirdo

These are the things i have been doing.

The sled pull. Been doing some intervals pulling 80kg, also doing just a straight pull of 1/2 mile forwards and 1/2 mile backwards with 60kg . Absolutely great all round conditioner workout.

The sandbag carry. Brought an old army duffle bag off ebay and stuck 4 bags of sand in it. 100kg total, carry it anyhow you can for 1/2 mile. Bear hug, on the shoulder. Across your neck. Just get the job done! This is a beast of a workout and good fun, in a hard way lol.

Car pushing. And no it hadnt broken down Only just started doing this one, i have a diesel mondeo so quite heavy. I just push it as far as i can, which aint far. Lactic acid soon stops you in your tracks, it hurts!! So its all good Great workout!

Also been doing some stuff with kettlebells for cardio , can just swing it round in ya living room. Gets the heart rate up nicely!!

Farmers walks! Not so unusual, but its great grip and whole body workout.

Any body else do anything similar or any other weird stuff?

Yeah dude, big time. Good work! It's the sort of thing I'd be really up for doing, if I had another person to do that sort of thing with!

Re: Cardio / strength training with a difference

I've not done it, but if I were after all round conditioning and strength for MMA or grappling that is exactly the kind of thing I would do.

Re: Cardio / strength training with a difference

Sled pulling is something i am really interested in starting but living in the middle of Newcastle means the space isn't really there for me and doing it at the park means i have to carry it about 3 miles before i even get to the park.

Reckon i might start doing the carrying a heavy bag, same way you suggested, If you do it witha heavy backpack will that be useful or is it likely just to do damage to your shoulders (just thinking walking round Newcastle carrying a massive bag might look proper odd...
