How do you train abs?

What is the secret to a six pack?

I haven't been training long but i am basically wanting to lose body fat and build muscle.
Which is the best way to train your stomach? Is it best to do loads of crunches and sit ups or is it best to use resistance exercises and weights? Should i work abs everyday? Or just once or twice a week?

Re: How do you train abs?

Having ab's showing is all about bodyfat.

You have to have a low bodyfat percentage.

Diet and cardio is how you get these!

Re: How do you train abs?

i only ever train Abs in the last 4-5 weeks before a comp, Abs are used in nearly all lifts as stabalising muscles in my opinion this is enough work for them and as Bulldozer has correctly pointed out to see your abs it is all about BF% not how you train them

They would make quite good paper weights

Nah seriouslt bud, they are a complete load of boll*cks.

There are no magic bullets, no secret exercises, no special pieces of equipment.

Just hard work and time.

Sorry for the bad news

Re: How do you train abs?

What percentage body fat would you have to get down to before they start showing ? Or is dependent on the person ?

The most practical way is to use skin fold calipers. You measure skin fold pinches in certain places on the body and work out your b/f from a chart. (that comes with the calipers)

Calipers are not accurate however, they are merely a guide.

You can buy BMI scales, but dont bother!! These are rubbish!

The most accurate way is Hydrostatic Weighing. This is a specialist thing, you basically get weighed under water in a bit tank. (some uni's have these tanks so im told)

But i wouldnt get too worried about b/f, your rather lean or your not! I have seen your pics and your lean and look great

Re: How do you train abs?

i would not get tangled up with the BF% issue Hayley far to many guys do and it is not worth it go by the mirror, your abs will come through in time.
you have made excellant progress so far i don't see why your abs won't come out in time...

Re: How do you train abs?

I'm using compounds mainly to work my abs at the moment and i'm doing am cardio to remove my body fat.

Every now and then i do some sit up and leg raises to give that added development.
