Train five days a week?

I have been training at the gym for 2 weeks now and have been advised to only do weights 3 days a week but i want to train 5 times a week.

My training:

Mon: Chest and Bi's

Tue: Back and Tri's

Wed: Shoulders and legs

Thurs: Chest and Bi's

Fri: Back and Tri's

(I was doing abs most days).

I understand that you need to rest to grow but i want to work hard and train 5 times a week. This is what i am thinking about doing:

Mon: Chest

Tue: Back

Wed: Legs and shoulders

Thurs: Tri's

Fri: Bi's

What do you think? I am still only training each muscle group once a week but it means that i can really work each muscle as i can spend the whole session on it (45 mins).

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Re: Train five days a week?

You will grow better on 3 days than 5.

Read BRAWN, it will explain things very well.

Re: Train five days a week?

You also have to realise that the body as a whole need time to recover the CNS etc, it is not just a case of individual muscles recovering, unless you are extremely gifted in the recovery dept like Ronnie Coleman is, his training intensity and frequency would kill most people.

Re: Train five days a week?

You could do your suggested '5 times a week' but train each muscle group for 20 mins instead of 45! Beware your joints especialy elbow and wrist will not get a chance to rest.

Re: Train five days a week?

mate recovery is just as important as training hard, remember this..i dont see the problem in training 5 days a week as ive always done this but ppls bodys are different and cant train like that, depends on ur job too if ur lifting kegs off a lorrie all day it would be best to cut down ur training days to get full recovery on the muscles or if ur just sitting in a office all day u wont go wrong on a 5 day training week,do proper stretches each day and dont over train around 25mins for each muscle bis tris and traps dont forget fore arms, and around 45mins for bigger muscles chest shoulders bk and legs..it works good for me,

Re: Train five days a week?

I used to train 5 days a week for about 3 years. I got nowhere fast.

I now train every other day (if it falls on a Sunday I won't tend to go as I prefer to have that extra day's rest), so mainly Monday, Wednesday, Friday.

The difference is superb.

Re: Train five days a week?

I train 5 days per week, sometimes 6 and grow much better than when I did 3 x per week. I think everyone's different and disagree with those who say you will not grow as much. Try it and see, but I'd do arms as a whole and have a seperate day for legs and shoulders if it was me.

Re: Train five days a week?

It takes a lot of discipline to train and we all love doing it!!

But it takes discipline to stay OUT of the gym also!!

I feel on that routine your soon burn out, wont see much/any results and become disheartened quickly.

I can train my whole body in 45 minutes!!! EASY!! As Nytol said read BRAWN mate.

The original poster is, im guessing a natural mate if he has only been going to the gym for 2 weeks.

I think its training suicide for 99% of naturals to train 5 times a week, there may be the odd freak who can do it productively but not many.

All IMO of course

I agree with Bully - making the assumption that the person has a full time job, works 45hrs a weeks + commute, and only trains in his spare time.
