I'd start with an empty bar, and get your technique right. Takes a while to get into the movement of the exercise.

You just need a straight bar.

Re: Whats type of bar and type of weights should i be using when deadlifting?

preferably an olympic bar with weights each side, I would say use a 20kg plate each side as the first plate on then you get a nice lifting base, but any would do I guess, although it might look funny doing it with 5kg plates...

I agree that you need to get your technique right but I find that with an empty bar my technique is thrown off and I get a better feel when there is a bit of weight on (not too much though)...

I know what you mean Greyphantom, with the weight it just make the bar more stable.
Its a great exercise, I like to do it after my leg workout, with no weight, gives me a good stretch.

Re: Whats type of bar and type of weights should i be using when deadlifting?

I've already been doing "deadlifts" for about 7 weeks now,, but just been using a normal bar and had 50kg on each side,, wasnt to sure if i should be using a olympic bar and the big looking rubber weights.

Its really weird, i'm finding it really hard to bench press using an olympic bar,, at home i could bench atleast 75 kg, now i can only do, 55-60 max :|

at home i was using a normal bench,, but at the gym i'm using this...

unsure the name,,, would this machine affect my lifting?

I use a mixture, Ive used an EZ bar, Olympic bar, or a deadlift machine, if your training for powerlifting then you'd be doing olympic only, but if not then variety is the spice of life, Bully uses a trap bar.

Olympic bars weigh 20kg.

Use an olympic bar along with full sized disks.
