![]() | Would this work? I used to go to the gym & enjoyed it but realised, being 16 & saving for a car, I couldnt really afford to keep paying about £25 a month with my current job. Anyway, I was thinking today of getting the £40 weights set from argos. You get 50kg of weight & 2 dumbell bars & a barbell bar as well. I think we have some sort of bench out in the garage so could use that. I could do: Dumbbell/barbell curls & hammer curls for biceps. Tricep extensions & dips in the grarage for triceps. Bench press & flies with the barble or dumbbells. Deadlifts & rows for back. Dumbbell press for shoulders. Standing calf raises for calfs. Lunges for quads. Wrist curls for forearms. That leaves me wit something needed to do for the lats which got me thinking. My idea was to lean on a ledge over my stairs so my legs were horizontal & my torso would be hanging down & I could have a dumbbell in each hand & do like a Lat pull down sort of thing but upside down with dumbbells. It would be easy enough to do. I know everything isnt ideal & the weigts wont be the best & I may have to get extra weight for deadlifts etc after a while but it is one of the only options for me at the moment as I dont want to have to spend loads. What do you all think? Is it a good idea & would the Lat exercise work? Please comment. James |

![]() | Re: Would this work? I had forgotten about pull up bars. Might take a trip to argos ar the weekend or order some off their website which might be better than having to carry 50kg of weights to the car. Cheers James |

I bought the highest resistance one, you may need to get a lighter one depending on your level...

Also get a real strong bag (maybe army surplus) and fill it with sand. Can do clean and press, carry the fu*ker for 1/4 mile. Loads of stuff. Old school baby ![]()

I live on a private lane about 100 meters long so something like this could be done right outside my house. Is it for general fitness or does it build muscle as well? Went on the argos website to see if my local store had them in & it turns out they are all discounted. So the 50kg set was £20, 35kg set was £15 & the 26kg set was £10. There was also a matching dumbell set down from £15 to £5. The 50kg set was sold out & wasnt avalible at any nearby stores & there was only one 15kg set in so I ordered that & also a 35kg set so I get 50kg or weights, a barble & 2 sets of dumbbell bars for £20. So I'm happy & they are all reserved for me ![]() I will see what else they have in store & might get a pull up bar depending on how much they are. Are they easy to put up & take don as I wouldnt be able to keep it up permenately? cheers James Any other workout ideas are welcome as well. | |

Bit of bear hugging, bit of on the shoulder. Just be careful not to f*ck ya back. Sandbag work can build muscle the same as barbells mate. It dont matter what you lift. Do a 1/4 mile and then clean and press the bad boy, that will sort you out and its good fun (in a hard way) ![]()

![]() | Re: Would this work? I got the weights yesterday & I'm very happy with them. They are the plastic coated type so are quite bulky when set up but other than that I cant complain for getting 50kg of weights & bars for £20. |
