Question about DOMS and after workout pumps.

Hey guys, not posted for a while but im still working out since ive got back from my holiday as planned.

Been seeing Cal and have a 2 day split with him and when possible a 3rd day at the gym, or 1 day with him and 1-2 at the gym, ive just started a new job for the next month or so, so ive had to cut it to 1 day a week with him.

Anyhow, my routines consist of deadlifts, chins, dips, bench press and other compound exersices.

Now getting to the last couple of reps in the 2nd and 3rd set i do struggle, and especially on the 3rd set i really have to push to get that last rep out.
but the problem is im not getting any pump from it, after my hours work out, i feel fine and want to try it again LOL,

i occasionally feel tired later on that night, or the next day, but its not that bad, but im not sure if this is right, Cals surprised im not 'feeling' it more, but during the work out im doing the best i can do at the time, Should i be feeling pumped afterwards? or get DOMS, is it a bad thing that i dont?

Problem im also having is that it makes me feel like im not training enough, but if i do any more then i run the risk of overtraining, which will not be good. and i cant really add alot more weight (were adding a small amount each week) because like ive said when im actualy training i do struggle to get the last couple of reps out.

any ideas guys ?

Re: Question about DOMS and after workout pumps.

I do not think a pump does much for muscle growth, as Mike Mentzer said, doing 50 push ups will give you a pump, but not a lot else.

I always get DOMS, and probably train less frequently, and with less sets than anyone on this forum, for me I feel it is important, but I know others who grow without any DOMS.

Try going to failure on that last set rather than lifting within your capabilities.

Re: Question about DOMS and after workout pumps.

Cheers Nytol

the last couple of exercises i do try and push 1 more out, but i generally only get half way and cant quite get the rest, in which cal will take it off me so i dont hurt myself

im really only training 2 days a week, ive yet to get that 3rd day in yet. ill be doing that once im back at uni hopefully.

i find if i dont stretch properly after a work out thats when i get the most pain, how ever if i do a stretch down then im generally pretty much fine.

not like the first time i went to the gym in which i felt like i had the **** kicked outa me

Re: Question about DOMS and after workout pumps.

I train twice per week, on a 4 way split, so each body part only gets worked every 14 days.

I've tried pretty much all splits, and this is by far the most effective.

Whats yours like?

BRAWN should be required reading for every one in the gym wishing to gain muscle.

Re: Question about DOMS and after workout pumps.

Dont worry too much about DOMS or pump.

I find that when i do ultra high reps i'll get awesome pump AND a bad case of DOMS for the next few days.

Doesn't really much for me though for someone who looking to bulk up as much as i can.

I train every third day on a four day split , so whole body every 12 days. I do train legs twice in that time however!

But its very low volume, i only use a few compound exercise's each session.

Re: Question about DOMS and after workout pumps.

if it's the pump you miss, chuck an extra set on the end, drop the weight and do high reps.

but then again - agree with the other boys, the pump doesn't do much but make your muscles look big for 30 mins after training
