new lad here

hey all, im a long time reader of this site and have followed diffrent advice from diffrent articals and threads. but i need some advice now. iam male 20 5'11'' 168lbs. i have been eating 6 meals a day with only wholmeal carbs apart from post workout where i eat maybe white rice or pasta etc etc. but i have found i have put on a lot of bf% i dont know exactly how much coz i use the mirror to judge gains but it is a noticable diffrence especially in the 3-4 weeks i have been eating like this. if i do 30 mins cardio before i eat(ie first thing) and 15-20 mins after my workouts will this stop me gaining muscle as i have read that it is impossible to gain muscle ad loose fat? please help as im loosing motivation and feel like the ast 6month have been for nothing

thanks guys

Re: new lad here

If you do cardio without going too intense then you will lose fat and not much muscle....you can incorprate CV and weights into your daily routine with no muscle loss mate....hit the cv dude

Re: new lad here

Welcome to the board mate.

Sounds to me as though your eating too many carbs, or not the right type of carbs. Post up your daily diet (& be honest) so we can look into it.

Doing cardio before breakfast & after training may be a bit of an overkill, but we'll soon know by taking a peek at your diet.

Re: new lad here

I try and eat 4-6 times a day, all healthy with lots of protein.

I do 30-45mins walk uphill at about 3miles perhour just after i've woke up, then have my breakfast shake 30mins later.

This is because after sleeping for 8hours + your body has nothing but fat to run off so walking pre breakfast burns straight into your fat reserves.

I also do cardio, generally 20mins on the running machine, 15-20mins on the bike and 5-10mins on a step machine after my weights, same cardio on both upper and lower body days.

I've found i have made some good gains, both in loosing fat and gaining some muscle.

Try and follow something like this, i don't think its perfect but for a beginner it will help you make advances.

Hope this has helped, i think i've babbled on abit. lol

Good luck

Re: new lad here

Add some protein to your 8am and 7pm meals, perhaps just a boiled egg or two but aim to have protein every 2-3hours.

7.45 - wake

8.00 - 3 weetabix 300ml skimmed milk you can still keep the weetabix here, but you may want oats instead with a protein shake

10.30 - 3 slices of wholemeal bread 3 eggwhites 1 yolk scrambled ( usually with tomato sauce) up the eggs. maybe have 5-6 egg whites & 1-2 yolks with sweet spud, or some oats again

12.00 - gym need a PWO shake here, i.e. whey with WMS, dextrose etc

1.30(ish) - protein and whey shake good solid food needed here. chicken & rice, spag bol, etc etc

2.00 - white pasta 100g 1/2 can of chopped tomatos and 200g turkey breastshake & oats maybe, or solid meal if you can stomach it

4.30 - 200g turkey breast - 60g brown rice - 1/2 tin peasfine.

7.00 - 3 weetabix 300ml skimmed milk Sweet spud with chicken etc,

9.00 - jacobs crackers with cottage cheese I tend to have a shake with oats at this time. Also, a spoonful of peanut butter, or keep the cottage cheese, but ditch the crackers.

this is every day training or not!

thanks again guys

help is much appreiciated
Obviously drop the PWO shake on non-training day.

12.00 - gym - pwo - whey protien shake id add a banana or two or you could even have a meal replacement shake to get the carbs in!

2.00 - white pasta 100g 1/2 can of chopped tomatos and 200g turkey breast tin of swet corn and peas

4.30 - 200g turkey breast - 60g brown rice - 1/2 tin peas

7.00 - 100g chicken breast 1 sweet patato, carrots, and gravy - gravy's not the best mate... maybe add some low fat mayo to your spud instead!

9.00 - a spoonfull of peanut butter and 100g chicken breast - good... another option is to have a small bowl of oats and 1/2 tub of low fat cottage cheese!

how is this then as i have tried to folow your advice cheers again for the help

Diet is much better mate...just my thoughts...make sure you also add fish oils and multivits as well!
