Abs

This has probably been asked a million times but i'm looking for a good time to do my abs (I want that pack but find it very hard to get motivated for them). Is it feasible to do them on days off training or even first thing in the morning three times a week?:confused:

Abs are one of those musce groups that you can train more than once a weeek. Typicaly you should trian you abs at the end of a session, by which time we are tired and there is the temptation to make a half ****d effort. So i can see what you mean about the difficulty in getting motivated. I often train my abs on non training days...the days i set aside for cv. Although i like to train my abs on the back of my legs routine because i find that after squats my core has already been hit and the following crunches, leg ups, etc really ensure my abs get worked. So in other words... you can work them on days off.

I think if you continue with your routine and not even do your abs they will come out fantastically when you get lean.

But i'd say do 100 every other day and they will be beastly.

Abs are like all muscles in your body, if u want them to get bigger they need a reason to.

Do you do 100 curls with a low weight to get ur bicep to increase ? NO!

So why do 100 sit ups?

The best way to stimulate your abs is to use resistance, What i do atm is 20 sit ups with a weight on my chest, then leg raises with the weight on my feet. Do that 3 times

I do this every other day

Hmmmm theres different views on this, im undecided as to what i am. Its the same as calves.

We say its all muscle, would you do 100bicep curls etc - but we use our abdominals to some extent with pretty much everything we do, same as calves (walk, run, go up stairs etc) so theres an argument that to stimulate these we have to do higher reps for them.

I never train abs but train calves, and must say since moving my rep range up my calves have grown fantastically!

I think it depends on what works for you mate. People say do sets of 20-30 for abbs. I have recently started using heavy weights on the resistance machine doing 10 reps and have seen my abbs growing and getting stronger faster than I thought possible!

Thing is though i don't want really big muscly abs, i dont like them. I like a big top and a smaller waist, that is why i would do sit ups, to get a nice toned stomach.

I've said it a million times - if you want that 'pack', diet, diet, diet. Once you get down to a low bf percentage, you'll see them come through.

ab's :confused: ive never seem em...... so only train them once a week 3 sets of 40 crunches!... i workout 4 times a week so my ab's are pretty much used during the other workouts as well!

like chris says diet will reveal them!

totally agree with the above. People put tooooooo much emphasis on abs. I know people who dont do abs at all and they have a great six pack.

I would not loose too much sleep over it. Why not vary the rep range if you have to do abs at all!
