| Newbie Trainer | I've received a bad reputation from someone for this post. I have to say I have only stated fact and if anyone has any evidence to the contrary I'd love to see it. The myth of upper and lower chest is the same as that of being able to hit the peak of the bicep or just the top part of the lats or lower and upper abs! Physically it is impossible to isolate these areas as far as any information I have gathered would lead me to believe. I'm not looking to get into a fight, but I would like to discuss with whoever has given me this 'bad rep' what is wrong with my posts? Maybe something can be cleared up and we can all learn from it. |

Maybe they hit disapprove instead of approve. I need upper chest more myself. Suffering a shoulder injury isnt helping at all. If it was me I would just put it into the thread as dissagree and explain why but I feel like I am too fwd at times especially during a cycle ![]() Less post cycle ![]() Darryn, check your PM's;)

![]() | When people say Incline press would hit the upper pecs, i'd emagin they were refering to the the Pectoralis Major Clavicular Head not the Sternal. The link shows the two muscles http://www.exrx.net/Muscles/PectoralisClavicular.html Benj |

I mean that all the chest is connected and one wont shut down because the other is being used. Even if you flexed your chest really hard both would get hit. Not very good but just as an example. When you walk both quad and hamstring will work together. With the exception of EMS I dont see how you could just hit one.

| Newbie Trainer | BenJ, I see your point with different heads. However, the muscle still contracts as a whole. Try it yourself, even with bis that have 2 heads try to flex one without the other. There is only a slight difference in length of the heads by turning the wrist, both will still contract. The pecs have less variation in position and as this is the cse the force is spread evenly throughout. I want contest the fact that there is a minor degree of targeting caused by varied angles, but this is so minimal as to be generally un-noticable. The point I'm making here is that there is no need to hammer all angles in every training session as this would just be hitting the same muscle over and over. After this thread I'm considering swapping my flat bench to incline for a period of 6 weeks as an experiment. Once I take pics (hopefully this weekend) I can gauge progress. Taking into account the fact I'll still be on cycle and will be cutting may not be the best conditions for this, but at the least it would be worth investigating. |

![]() | I Understand what your saying mate and I have to agree with you I was just saying that the incline would put a greater workload on the upper, as aposed to say decline, I still agree that all the chest muscles will contract. Myself I do neither i've always done flat and Dumbell Flys! Benj |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I do bench and inclines for chest. This is all I do and I do go heavy. Chest is probably my best body part. I only hit it once a week but I do hit it with intensity.
