Legs For Biking

Hi Guys

Was after some advice...

After a pretty poor winter of on/off training and dieting I've started to get focused again on getting fitter and stronger for this years Megavalanche Mountain Bike race in the Alps.

I have never directly trained my legs but because was heavily into martial arts when I was younger I've got naturally strong legs (in my opinion), I suprised myself in the gym a few weeks ago when I managed 400lbs for 3 sets of 8 on a hack squat machine.

Anyway my question... I did a few weeks of training legs last month but could never recover quick enough to be fit enough for a training ride at the weekend (I normally did legs on a Wednesday), I tried to move legs to earlier in the week but they were still tired from the ride and vice versa

What sort of exercises should I be doing to build up the strengh in my legs for biking???

Any advice would be greatly received...

good luck, lol - never catch me doing that! To be fair - the megavalanche is all bike control really though...

Squats and Leg Press... just enough to not interfere with your leg recovery from cycling... i'd stay away from the leg ext. - nothing worse that a dodgy sore knee when cycling

Re: Legs For Biking

Lunges are pretty good imo actually...

they are quite a lot of exercises for legs which is brilliant since we can rotate them round - if we stall on one for example, there is always another to replace it with and load the weight back up on...

forgot to say before - i think SLDLs are a necessity for cyclists - due to cycling having a habit of tightening the hamstrings up, since your legs never really go to full extension
