More Newbie questions

Have been using the site for a short while but still very much consider myself a newbie.

I have some questions that I want answered so it may be a long post. SORRY...


I very much like Tinys way of eating and regulating his diet, rather than bulking and cutting I am just trying to eat healthily at the right times in order to put on lean muscle mass. I have gained 5 KG in 2 months and although my muscle growth was obvious I also developed love handles and a bit of a gut.

You guys have already given my diet the once over and that seems ok but I have a load of newbie questions that I have not asked yet...


So

What are CLEAN carbs?

Is it right that I try and eat protein and vitamins etc before training and save my carbs for after?

Is it right that I shouldnt have any carbs after 8PM just protein and vitamins?

I am yawning in the gym regualry is that a good thing or not?

If I forgot to take my creatine for a day will I have to go through the loading stage again??

What different effects are there between Thermobol and CLA??

Recently I have had a couple of days where I have not felt as strong, cant do as many reps asI have been and struggle to fight through the burn as much. Is that normal??

A. Potatoes, Rice, Oats, Barley, basically anything that hasn't been refined and processed. SMASH for example is a processed carb although made from potatoes its refined for ease of cooking so the GI is increased.

Q. Is it right that I try and eat protein and vitamins etc before training and save my carbs for after?

A. Yeah I try to not eat carbs in the 90 minutes before training as this can help to increase the GH release during the Workout. If you train first thing then eating nothing but some BCAAs and Glutamine will help thsi even more.

Q. Is it right that I shouldnt have any carbs after 8PM just protein and vitamins?

A. Thsi depends on when you are going to bed and how many carbs you have eaten all day. For example I eat a bowl of oats in the evening at 9pm while dieting but then I've only had about 70g of oats that day at breakfast for carb sources. I think its not really about eating carbs but more complex carbs as this will help with your glycogen replenishment. Too many may contribute to fat storage though.

Q. I am yawning in the gym regualry is that a good thing or not?

A. not sure on that one, when do you train?

Q. If I forgot to take my creatine for a day will I have to go through the loading stage again??

A. No, I never load on creatine anyway, its not necessary for best results overall just a short term results thing due to over saturation. Loading is more marketing than anything.

Q. What different effects are there between Thermobol and CLA??

A. Thermobol is a stimulant fat burner, CLA is a fatty acid that can help break down fat in the body. I never use CLA as I think its over priced.

A. This is due to not enough rest most probably so you are not recovered enough from previous workouts, maybe a change around of your workout split is in order. Or it could just be 'one of those days' we all have them mate.

hey man, im sure Tinytom will answer your questions in more depth...but here's to get you started..

what are clean carbs? Oats, wholemeal pasta, veg, sweet potato, rice & wholemeal breads.

Is it right that I try and eat protein and vitamins etc before training and save my carbs for after? if your talking pre and post workout then try to get some carbs and protein in before and after your workout (post workout especially)
Try whey protein and a banana 1 hour before you train and straight after have a meal replacement shake! i would take just 1 multivit a day after your main meal! wellman are good!

I personally dont have carbs after 9pm... some people say 6pm but clean carbs aid recovery, just dont eat as much carbs at night!

who dosen't???? im sure everyone does - start to worry when you fall a sleep at the gym!

If I forgot to take my creatine for a day will I have to go through the loading stage again?? if you have done the loading phase, the creatine will be in the body anyway - just continue as normal!

What different effects are there between Thermobol and CLA?? apart from saying they both aid fat loss... cla is naturally produced by the body but adding more cla can help with fat loss.
Thermobol has different products in (ie caffine and green tea extract) to burn fat and speed up your metabolism! your diet and training must be spot on before you see any results - fat burners are not magic pills...remember this and your set "a six pack is made in the kitchen not in the gym"

Everyone has good and bad days... its pretty normal, theres so many factors to deal with when your strong one day and not the other as long as your lifts are consistiant and your making progress! - if your lifting the same weights you were a 3 months ago change up your training to shock your body! (ie low reps, and heavier weight but with proper form)
