Pain after workout and the next days?

Hi everyone,

I recently started a new training program incorporating more weight training, although I am used to it - but now less cardio more weights.

On Thursday I worked on my legs and triceps and the exercises for my legs were Squats (two dumbells 5kg), lunges and then a machine leg curl. I also did a 30min run after. The day after and today I have been suffering from really bad muscle pain , until the point I can not walk well at all. I've only experienced this pain after playing a hard squash game when I haven't played for a while.

Have I done something wrong? Or how to i eleveate some of the pain, and would doing cardio help (e.g. cross trainer)?

Thanks in advance!!!

Miss Tx

Re: Pain after workout and the next days?

First of all, welcome to the board.

Secondly, it would seem you have either over-trained, or are experiencing your leg muscles taking a battering. To this very day I still suffer sore legs for up to 5 days after training them somtimes.

It does sound as though you have over-trained by running after squatting and doing lunges. Lunges are a superb exercise for legs though.

Re: Pain after workout and the next days?

I personally would do cardio (if needed) in the morning before breakfast, then train at whatever time you normally go.

Re: Pain after workout and the next days?

Sounds like normal DOMS (delayed onset of muscle soreness) to me, welcome to weight training lol

Its ok you haven't done anything wrong you just need time to get used to it probably a month or more.

Keep training hard and the DOMS won't be as bad as you adapt.

IN the meantime, heat application, massage and as an absolute last resort pain killers may help.

SD

By the way, lunges are a great exercise, but really eccentric on your quads so are prone to causing sever DOMS. Try leg press, or squats till you get used to lifting.
