![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Body For Life by Bill Phillips. Body For Life by Bill Phillips Has anyone read this book? I cracked it open yesterday and man oh man this guy has some good info in there. I could tell he is HIT type of guy. What he says very closely mimics what Paul Booth says. In fact so close it is crazy. Some of the things he talks about is eating more protein, concentric and eccentric parts of the movements (gotta have both), getting alot of sleep, drinking more water, and the importance of recovery. He goes into great detail about the importance of recovery and like Paul, he suggests not to lift weights every day. He also talks about goals and having a positive mind about things. So far it is a very impressive read.

My principles are taken straight from Dorian yates & John Hodgson, with some modifications as I saw it from my perspective. These theories evolve over time when they are adopted & adapted by nerdy/clever/modest types (me). ![]()

Beginners book really Hacks, I recommended my gf the womens version, simple explantions of the defeciency of western diets/lifestyles. He uses anecdotal advice to newbie trainers to make points and does it very well. What I like about it is the 'no thrills' advice, Phillips' isn't afraid to plug the simple principles of a healthy lifestyle - decent diet and regular exercise. He is a businessman though and he didn't sell EAS for millions without being slightly coy, he seems to think that you can't complete the program unless you have at least 3 Myoplex's every day (along with at least 3 other EAS supps) He used to be very hardcore when he owned MuscleMedia (which is still one of the best supplement-owned fitness magazines IMO) back in the 1990's he even said 1 steroid cycle a year was completley fine. Then he realised he could make more money by appealing to the mainstream and started EAS and Body-for-Life. Definately worth a read but I don't think you discover anything in there you don't already know. Jock

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Body For Life by Bill Phillips. I have not read his dieting information yet. But most of the stuff I am already doing. I just read some of his training stuff and for me there is too much warmup but I do see what he says and for the most part I do agree. Like the water in the morning fist thing because most of us are dehydrated. His principles on adaptive recovery I am using now thanks to Paul Booth, and I never enjoyed doing so little and feeling so hard and strong. His thoughts on positive thinking are quite inspiring too, i like that. Something on the lines if you believe you will secceede. Also oatmeal being his favorite carbohydrate, I have heard that many times and Paul Booth suggests this too. But I am not in agreement with upper body being hit every 5 days, not with the intensitity that I like to do, I feel that is borderline overtraining.

![]() | Re: Body For Life by Bill Phillips. It's this book that got me started! Although am changing things as I research more myself. I like the book, it's easy to follow and a solid platform. My girlfriend's doing it now and getting on great. Although it seems to be more aimed at losing weight than putting on muscle. I didn't feel he promoted his supplements too much either. He does say you can dfo the plan without supplements and my g/f's not using any. Good read for beginners. |

![]() | Re: Body For Life by Bill Phillips. They've got it quite cheap on Amazon. Definately an interesting read. I've just given it to my little brother who desperately needs to put on some weight and sort out his eating habits. The book addresses everything a beginner needs to know, training, CV, diet, but keeps it simple by talking about food interms of 'fist sized portions' rather than calories and macros. I think this is great for most people starting. Also like the fact he makes keeping a journal an important part and talks about increasing the weight each week. Again, good basic advice. |
