Breakfast, Before or After Workout?

Hey, I get up around 6.30 and get to the gym for 7am.. Upto now I have been having something light before the gym (glass of milk, yogurt, banana etc) then coming home and having a proper breakfast but I was wondering if it would be better to eat before the gym then have the protien, oats, glutamine shake directly after workout?

What would be the best thing for me to do?

Thanks

Re: Breakfast, Before or After Workout?

Can you stomach food that early then go training? Everyone's different.

There has been a couple of threads like this in the past few days. Have a search & read some responses.

Re: Breakfast, Before or After Workout?

Hey,

Yeah there seems to be no clear answer really (from what ive read) some people recomend taking something to get you through the session and then eat proper afterwards and some eat before and have a pwo shake..

I could eat that early yeah if it was best, although I had a kippers & eggs on toast breakfast before a session and was literally gipping through the workout ha, but i think that was just the kippers!

I guess ill carry on,

Thanks

Re: Breakfast, Before or After Workout?

I was told working out in the morning before breakfast was good for burning fat. Also, wouldn't you need to wait an hour or so after you'd eaten if you were to eat before the gym? So that'd mean getting up earlier, or running later!

Whenever I've tried working out early in the morning, before eating, I get halfway through my workout and feel light headed and sick and have to stop. I just thought it was because I didn't have enough energy to get through the session, so train later in the day now and it's fine.

Try both and see how you feel!

Re: Breakfast, Before or After Workout?

yes training before eating will burn off more fat...

however u will struggle to gain mass imo as u wont have enough energy to lift decent weights imo

Re: Breakfast, Before or After Workout?

yeah, i agree with DB here. When I train with weights i will have my porridge and whey an hour beforehand (06.00hrs) and have a pwo shake afterwards. When I train cardio only (on wed morns) I have a shake at 06.00 and then my porridge afterwards.

Re: Breakfast, Before or After Workout?

^^^I would always do early morning cardio on an empty stomach. Just some Glutamine and BCAA's and have brekkie afterwards, much more effective for fat loss.

To the original poster, I also think it's a bad idea to train on empty stomach. 1, as previously said, no energy to push yourself to the limit. 2, also run the risk of delving into a catabolic state imo.

Re: Breakfast, Before or After Workout?

I train early one week every three. I wake up at 5 have Pro-mass with water then train at 5.45. Pro-Recover and brekkie at about 6.30. But I am aiming to put mass on.

I think cardio is ok on an empty belly for fat loss, but for a weights session I cant see the benifit - personally.
