![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | How long does it take to notice? Hi people! I was sitting today and I mentioned to my mum that i had gone up 8 kg....sinces september thats the time I started training to be honest so i had to start eating more....I have increased in weights as in adding more kilo to a bar bell or dumbell since then i mean maybe lifting 5 kilo extra or so. But my mum made the comment your not getting fat are you? and was like what u mean...And she is like well u putting on all this weight and u dont look like u have increased in muscle size at all.... Which kinda hit me back a bit and made me feel kinda crappy.. But I mean some friends have pointed out that my forearms look bigger now and my gf is like ya biceps are bigger etc...But I mean how long does it take till i start to look different...When do people normally say u look like u doing weights.. i heard 6-8 months...so should i still look basically the same as usual or what? My mums comments have lowered my motivation made me feel like i aint getting anywhere now,.... |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: How long does it take to notice? correct diet and training will help, you will increase streanth and weight initially quickly , but it will slow down, however with the right diet and training steady improvements can be made slowly, its not about how much weight you put on but the shape you can make your body into. post up your diet in diet section , and training technique in the relevent section and we can all help you out mate. keep refering back here and it will help your motivation as it does most of us on here. |

If you have a belly, as you have stated, then you may be carrying a little too much bodyfat. If you are eating well (like advised above, get your diet looked at on here), training correctly & allowing sufficient time for recuperation, then you will be growing new muscle tissue. You may well be accumulating some fat along with the new tissue so any muscular gains you have made, will be un noticeable to those who see you all the time, including yourself. Judging by the 8 kilo gain since september this is highly likely as the body will struggle to produce that much new tissue in that time period. My advice is to get the diet nailed down & consistent right now, no delays. If you need to lose bodyfat, do it now, again, no delays. Yes, you will lose weight, but it's possible to do at the expense of fat, not the muscle you have gained. Once you are down to a level of bodyfat that you are happy with & can maintain, then start to slowly increase calories to the point where you grow muscle, but not get fat. A realistic goal for most guys (if natural) is that a pound increase every month is a good one. Any more, and you will more likely be gaining fat & water to boot. It may not sound much of a gain, a pound of muscle, but look at it this way; imagine a quarter pound lump of steak. Now imagine slapping it on your shoulder, how much size is that?! It's a lot, I can tell you. Now imagine four times that amount of tissue every month & it becomes clear that this would represent a bl**dy good gain for anyone. Follow this advice & you will start to see the well earned results of your training and even your mum will notice.

Back to your training - I personally wouldnt measure my strength by what I could curl. It's really an insiginficant amount. A true measure of your gains is in your compound lifts. If you can bench more, dead more, squat more etc...then you are going in the right direction. Don't worry about isolation exercises like curls!
