![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Are core exercises worth the time of day? Hi, I've been training for a while now both free weights and machines and I play a lot of football 2 matches and 2 training a week. Last year when I was training at the gym I got some advice off of a personal trainer and all he would do with me was core stability and core exercises, even though they knackered me when I was put through my paces I thoguht they was a bit sh!t. My balance did improve and I had sligtly more confidence on the footy pitch, but now I'm doing weights shall I continue my training which is pretty hard or should I try and incorporate some core exercises aswell? Cheers |

Bear in mind, the usual compounds work your core hard anyway - deads, squats, standing OHP. But there's no harm in doing extra core work. The strongest lifters in the world spend most of their time on a mixture of core and rear posterior work, both of which are heavily overlooked by most bodybuilders/weight trainers.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I think core stuff is essential but a tip i got from a mate was to not to do them more than twice per week, i see a lot of folk doing core stuff every day. You wouldnt work your chest every day, so why do the core stuff so often

Like Big, I would think you would get more development focusing on core exercise while trying to improve either weight or reps each week. If you focus on this and all your core lifts go up you have no other choice but to get bigger. Beyond Brawn focuses strictly (from what I have read so far) on core. How many bodybuilders in your gym do core? Mine, hardly any. How many have weak legs and core?...............Most. I really laugh at guys with big arms and dont work legs. When I started dead lifting all my lifts went up. Crazy huh?
