Starting to train again
Just over 2 years ago, I was going to the gym to bulk up. I'm 6ft and I weighed 70kg. I managed to up my weight to 80kg during the time I was working out. I didn't do much in terms of diet though; I ate a lot of fresh fruit & veg and decent meat but I also ate more than my fair share of biscuits & crisps.
I haven't worked out in the last 18 months other than some press ups here and there, and due to too many biscuits etc. my weight has gone up to 85kg; mostly around my gut. My plan is to cut all the crap out of my diet and shed the fat I've gained. I've got a workout & diet plan that looks quite good for shedding some weight - it's a bit of cardio & core work, and the diet plan is lots of fruit, veg & protein. I can't see any carbs in it.
I wouldn't mind gaining a bit of muscle though so my question is, should I do a muscle gaining workout first, or go for the weight loss program for a while and then try to gain muscle? I don't won't to get massive, I'm just looking to get toned. A decent 6 pack is my ultimate goal.

Re: Starting to train again
i just asked a similar question in my thred..
it seems that most people will say cut the fat first and then build muscle.
i was advised to clean up diet. then train hard with compund excercises while lifting heavy. and also to attempt 30 mins of cardio evryday. ?

Re: Starting to train again
diet is the most important thing to get nailed on first. make sure you eat plenty of clean food, then slowly work your way back into the training, remember tho weight training will help burn fat as well as cardio, get a good foundation then you can work on really building up some decent muscle

Re: Starting to train again
Thanks guys. My current diet plan seems pretty good to me; lots of fresh meat, fruit and veg. The average day consists of this:
Breakfast - Scrambled eggs with spinach, onion and mushroom
Lunch - Grilled chicken salad with balsamic dressing
Dinner - Beef & vegetable curry (thai style)
Snacks - Various fruits (mainly apples, bananas & blueberries), walnuts, carrot sticks
Supplements - multi vitamins & omega 3
I'm doing 3 days of cardio and core work at the gym. I'm planning on sticking to this until I'm satisfied with the fat loss and then change the diet slightly to put on some lean muscle.
Does that diet and workout plan seem reasonable? Is there anything in my diet I should be trying to get more of?
