Trying to shift excess fat and gain muscle..

Hi,

Well I've been training hard 4-5 times a week for about 8 weeks now, always competed in aerobic sports in the past, mainly football.

I'm trying to lower my BFI, however I'm already lean, I mainly want to build on what I've got (17years, 6'2, 214lbs). And to do this I've been doing about an hours cardio followed by weights in the gym.

However, I'm not sure about two things...

Firstly is it suitable for me to build muscle when I play a lot of competitive football. Will I find myself struggling more, or find it easier, due to the increased muscle, also will losing weight whilst gaining muscle work at the same time? Please bare in mind I'm doing cardio in the gym, and I'm not trying to get to a competitive bodybuilders size, but I want to be big, big (if you know what I mean?!)
I really don't want the new muscle to hinder me, but to give me the edge over others blokes my age.

Secondly, should I change my routine so I do weights then cardio?

Thanks for any advice.

Ok, I wasnt too sure on this, but this is because I've always trained this way.
Should I just reverse my training?

Always do cardio after weights and after having a PWO shake imo.
Ideally, you'd do your cardio on days when you aren't doing weights.

As far finding it more difficult to play football - it all depends how far you go. if you're 250lbs - 300lbs of solid muscle, you'll struggle to play football imo. Most pro-footballers are no more than 85kg ~ 187lbs. However, If you lean out to say 200lbs @ 6'2 - I wouldn't class this as "big, big" - and hit the weights hard, you'll certainly be very competative in any 50/50's.

What is your Body Fat% at the moment? Do you just want to lean out or increase muscle mass significantly?

Bodyfats around 13.4-14%. I know its too high at the moment, but I want to lose the fat and get leaner and slightly bigger.

imo if u can do cardio after lifting weights then you probably haven't pushed yourself hard enough. u'd be wasted after the weights.

Diet is the most important thing in losing body fat.

Cardio will be used to gain endurance and stamina.

Weights will give you more power, size and strength.

As long as you are covering all of these then what needs to be looked at if you are not happy with your success is just to tweak a few things.
