Please help

Hi i,m new to all this i've just join the gym and want to get startedbut need help with a routine and diet plan.

I'm 5ft 8 and 12stone in reasonable shape maybe carring a little excess wieght around the middle. I want to achieve what i would call a catalogue body, being a printer by trade and lifting paper allday long my arms and shoulders are quite toned but need help.

If someone could give me a good start i would be most grateful:lift:

If you're just starting out, i'd recommend just sticking to bodyweight exercises for a while until you've mastered them and pushups/pullups/squat thrusts arn't enough anymore.

Try and eat fairly cleanly, ie. no simple carbs(like straight sugar). Cut down on your fizzy drinks and booze. Try and up your calories to 3000, and then see how you respond to it during the course of the next few weeks.

My recommendation for a routine would be ripptoe's 5x5 for beginners.
