| Newbie Trainer | DOMS..... Hi, Just wondered if anyone has any thoughts on DOMS...? After i train, i dont get much (if any) soreness. Does that mean i'm not pushing the muscles hard enough, or is it a good thing? When i started training, and for some time, i got soreness in the muscles i'd worked....and found it quite re-assuring. Cheers |

As long as you are training effectivley and gaining muscle and you are adding weight to your lifts then you have nothing to worry about. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I asked a similar question to this on this forum and a couple of others I visit. I think the opinion was similar every where. As long as your lifts are increasing you *should* grow. Obviously, everything else has to be in place, but DOMS isn't a bad or a good sign. If you search DOMS here I think I posted an article about it. Its only a personal opinion, but I like DOMS - its make you feel like you did something - maybe I just like pain...but thats a different story all together!

![]() | i find the less volume i do the less DOMS i experience. however the less volume i do the more strength i gain in my basic lifts. now when it comes to building muscle over a period of time i think increasing your strength plays an important role. if you go from squatting 100 kg to squating 200 kg your going to be one big ass mofo! id worry more about constantly getting stronger than if your muscles hurt. i agree, its a satisfying feeling. but so is being able to say to yourself '' last year i could deadlift 150 kg, now i can do 250''.... get what i mean? just my thoughts! alex |

| the sparrow never lands were the tiger roams | if some muscle groups hurt but other's don't i wouldn't complian! as said above aslong as the weight is going up and you are gaining then i wouldn't worry! there isn't a rule that says you have to be in pain when you have worked out also there isn't a rule saying that you will never be in pain from working out! it's all a personal thing, to repeat myself and ironman aslong as the weight is going up and you are making gains then everything is in order! although if you were constantly in pain after every work out and the pain was excrutiating then i would worry!
