seagull is on a distinguished road
Sore Neck from Bench Press !

Its happened a few times but last week was nasty.

I think i must be pulling my neck and shoulders up when i initially push up the weights.

Maybe im going to high.

Is this a common problem ?

Keep your head and shoulders pinned back against the bench.

Best you can do is ask someone knowledgeable at your gym to check your form.

Aye ^^^

When benching, form is everything. Keep your shoulders/head pinned back, Feet firmly planted on the ground, and exaggerate the arch in your back. This will really help to bring as much of your chest as possible into the movement.

If you deviate from the above, you run the risk of incorporating other muscles that are not needed, or worse experiencing little hiccups that you're talking about in your OP.

The arch is just a slight exaggeration, UNC ... I forgot to mention to keep your butt firmly planted on the bench as well. Just keep your chest high, shoulders back/head down/feet planted and you're good to go ... If you do this, the exaggeration will be there in your back, anyways.
