![]() | Fat boy needs a diet! Hi. I am a 22 year old male, 6' 5inches tall and 19 1/2 stone. I used to play rugby and was quite fit but since leaving school i hit the junk food and got fat. I am just getting fatterand fatter and the time has come to do something about it. My normal diet consists of, no breakfast, 2 sausage rolls about 10, bottle of coke or three, two sandwiches (cheese and something normally), 2 packs of crisps, 2-3 chocolate bars at 12. Then dinner time consists of fishcakes and chips, burgers and chips, kfc, mcds, pizza with a coke or four. then pudding is a big bag of mnms and about 3-5 chocolate bars and cakes. The thing is i feel as though i am addicted to junk food, i know people are going to think that i am being pathetic but i actually get cravings for junk and coke! I have joined the gym but have noone to go with so i know that motovation will be a problem so the things that i do at the gym have to be enjoyable or i will never be able to hack it long term. Although i am a big guy, i am extreamly weak, i struggle to lift 10kgs. Where the hell do i start? Any advice would be greatly apprieciated! Thanks |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Welcome biggy. Well where do we start. Basically your diet is shi* You are not pathetic because your body is craving rubbish food. It has become addicted to sugar and crap basically. You need to cut out all the crap you are eating and radically overall your lifestyle Diet. You will find good info on this ite but I will give you some aswell. Firstly eat breakfast. It is a major meal and the most important. Try Oats or porridge. For your sweet fix why not have a few nuts and raisins and a tiny bit of honey in with you oats. Have a glass of Orange juice aswell. Sounds better than your current nothing doesn't it? You need to eat foods like chicken, fish, veggies etc. All your food you currently eat is useless junk that will end up killing you. As for the training, well a lot of people hate going to the gym like you do. So why not start off by walking. Go for a walk before you eat anything in the morning. This will burn off some fat. You need to start slowly and gather momentum. If you manage a brisk 10 minute walk in week 1 then then try for 15 mins in week 2. Another method of cardio is what I do. Have you got an exercise bike? If so why not ride it for half an hour whilst playing video games or listening to your favourite music. Makes the time go much quicker and is not boring. How about boxing? imo the best cardio workout there is. Feels good to beat the punchbag up and is greta for fitness and fat burning. Just think in 6 weeks you could lose maybe 20 lbs of fat. You are genetically a big guy at 6 foot 5 but just think how impresive you could look at 6 foot 5 and lean. Not to mention how much better mentally you will be. Your current diet will do nothing but depress you and lead to health problems. You have made the first big step in facing up to your problems and asking for help. If you want a diet and exercise plan then reply here and I and the others on this site will come up with a plan of action to help you. This is a great place for help. Oh and you will get stronger once you have a proper exercise and nutritional plan. Depends on whether you want it bad enough. The ball is in your court mate. ![]() |

| Made in Liverpool | Some very good advice given above I got myself into a similar situation as what your in now, i was a fat kid in school, but when i left i realised i wasnt going to get what i wanted in life looking the way i did. I took the plunge and started going to my local gym, after a year or so i was in decent shape but from there it all went drastically down hill. I got involved in a relationship and managed to go from a lean 12 stone 7 to around 16 stone 10 of pure fat, over a period of 2.5 years. Id gone from a 32 inch waist to a 40 inch waist. Im only 5ft 8' so you can imagine how big i actually was. Walking id get out of breath, if i was sitting in a warm room id start to sweat. legs chaffing the lot. I had the addiction to junk food, id drink a litre bottle of coke a night. i ate out of chinese takeaways 5 nights per week. Until one new years eve around 3 years ago, i decided id had enough. I ended the relationship for both of us.. but mainly for my health. I joined a bigger gym and decided i was going to do something about myself. I made the mistake of trying to jump in at the deep end, I got on the treadmill and tried to run (i thought it was that simple), my ankles swelled up like balloons because they couldnt support the weight. I then heard about incline walking and how good this was for burning fat. so i got on the threadmill and started off with 5 sessions of incline walking per week (30 minutes per session) , as soon as i was doing this comfortably i added 5 cross trainer sessions into my workout. Before i knew it i was doing 1 hour of cardio 5 nights per week, at this point i added in a few light weights. I joined this forum and found the advice from everyone invaluable, i learnt about how to eat, train and that rest was equally as important as the other 2aspects of training, this site has honestly changed my whole outlook on training, which inturn has improved my performance in the gym, making me a much improved person on the whole. Ive not posted this because i want a pat on the back, i just want you to know that people have been in similar situations to the one your in now mate and it is possible to do something about it. Good Luck Mate Lee

![]() | Thanks for this! Wow didnt expect such a response. Today is the day for change. I went for a walk this morning and then had breakfast (porridge). Feel so awake just for doing that 10 mins this morning! My body is craving junk as we speak but i am being strong! lol To the gym tonight for the first time in over a year! I will try the incline walking as running would kill me. Do you guys reccomend that i do any weight work yet or shall i just do cardio until i have lost some of the fat, another thing is my gym is full of heros and i feel daft going into the free weight room being 6' 5 and weak as sh*t! Thanks for the kind words as as you rightly say its now down to me!!! Jonny |

Anyway to more pressing matters, mate just get in there and take it easy and youll get into it in no time. Take it all easy cardio and light weights to get started, no running just brisk walking on the incline tread and id say twice a week do a whole body routine with weights to get you started and in a month or 2 come back update us and we can reasess then, good luck and dont worry about the strength to weight ratio, that will come.
