![]() | Questions and Equipment £ When is the best time to weight train? I would have thought not long before you sleep, as rest is as important as anything else for muscle growth? Next thing would be equipment, I'm getting my own place soon and plan on buying my equipment and quitting the gym, wondered where the cheapest place would be. An adjustable bench, dumbbells and a curling bar is all I've identified as needing so far. Any help would be appriciated. Thanks I've got 3 more hours at work to kill, might as well get everything in this thread ![]() This is me (best, well only pic I've got)I'm anything but huge and happy with how I look, but a little more wouldn't hurt, never manage to gain on this though, 73kg... 11.5 stone... 151 pounds (whichever you like using) My routine, all 3 sets, 8 reps. Chest Flies Bench press Incline bench press cable flies Biceps Alt D/B curls Preacher curls Arm curl machine Shoulders Shoulder Press (with D/B's) Side Raise Seated Rear Lat Raise (http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/...eralRaise.html) Front Raise Triceps Rope pull down Push down Extension (http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/.../DBTriExt.html) I've tried different for my triceps afew times and I can't find anything that works! My arms seem to be the worse at gaining. shoulders it shows the best as I'm quite broad. (and yes I've left out my back and legs, but I'm happy with how I train them) Well if anyone has any suggestions, go nuts. Thanks Last edited by Cybermoose; 25-09-2005 at 02:43 AM. |

| Gym Addict | IMO, if your arms are not growing it is probably because they are being overtrained. Do you do this routine all in the same sessions? If you do, then your triceps are getting hammered (since you're using them on the chest and shoulder exercises, then isolating them aswell!). I know you have said that you dont train back, and legs, but by not training your back I think it restricts how much your chest can grow, also, training back and legs will put in more compund movements ( squats, deadlifts, rows etc) which will help you gain over your whole body. |

Hi, Thanks for responding. I don't do all that in the same sessions. Monday - Chest/Biceps Wednesday - Shoulders/Back Friday - Legs/Triceps I do train my Legs (Squats, Extensions and Calf Raise) and Back (Lat pull down, bent over D/B row, machine rows) But my back is the only muscle group I don't look forward to doing, puts strain on my right elbow joint if I do to heavy on the lat pull down so I do 15 reps with a weight light enough not strain it. I didn't realise not training my back would hinder chest development! | |
