![]() ![]() | Neck Injury On the 3rd Aug I woke up with terrible pain in the upper back (right side) I think I must have hurt it the night before whilst messing about with the kids in the sea. After a few days of terrible pain I went to the chiro who said that the problem is with the nerves in my neck. I had 8 sessions with him at £25 a shot and things settled down a little but as i have been off work for 3 weeks the fire service have sent me to BUPA for phsio (so no more cost for me) and they have today said the same, the problem is with the nerves in the neck. A x-ray has shown a lot of wear and tear in the neck. I have now got 3-4 weeks of physio and if it does not improve then a scan is required. I am gutted, I have not trained since 2nd aug (5 weeks) and it is murder. I am still having pain in the upper back, right pec and the most worrying is the limited feeling i have in the right tricep from the shoulder to elbow. So bang goes any plans for training for the immediate future but I have to follow their advice and hopefully my goal of being in the best shape I have ever been in by may 2006 for my 40th is still an option.:boohoo:

![]() ![]() ![]() | Had the same sort of injury a few years ago! Was doing behind the neck press when felt terrible pain in neck & shoulder, anyway cut a long story short had the physio & chiro etc wasnt until i had an MRI scanmonths later that it showed i had slipped disc which had trapped a nerve! Got numb hand & finger in left arm, lost all muscle in lower left peck & also lost tricep!! Its has taken a long time( & a lot of dosh) & still cant do some exercises! Pec has healed but tricep still not fully recovered! Neck is weak now & i still get trouble from time to time,& if it disc slips again i will have to have neck fused!! push for a MRI scan m8 as xrays wont show muscle or nerve damage! |

![]() ![]() | Yes mate that is my plan. Play the game with the treatment for a couple of weeks (as they are paying) and then the bottom line is if they want to get me back to work then they will have to get the scan sorted so we can see exactly what to treat. Anyway,I am hoping the good news you have to tell me about this injury is in your next post.:rolleye11

![]() ![]() ![]() | I wish i could m8,but its a painfull long old process! Set me back a good year & a half-no ****e & still not 100% yet,i kept on training the best i could after the pain killers started to work!! Couldnt shoulder press, bench press & if doing something like single arm tricep ext could only manage half the weight on bad arm,& its still not caught up the right arm yet! I hope yours isnt so bad as mine was bud,as i know what your going thru, just do what you can & you will get better SLOWLY! ALL THE BEST & let me know how you get on!! |

![]() ![]() | Cheers mate, will keep you all posted. Just on a side note has it been mentioned at all about the possibility of a section for injuries? It seems a lot of posts tend to end up talking about some sort of injury or niggle and I bet between us all we have a fair bit of knowledge for people who are maybe new to training and lifting and are therefore not familiar with the aches, pains and injuries that come with it.What do you think Paul?

I lie on my stomach and let my head hang off the end of the bed and my palms next to my body facing up. I let my neck drop slowly down then raise it up slowly. By using the head kindof as a weight for resistance, this is strengthening the back of the neck. Also I keep my neck paralell to the ground then move my face fwd and backward without tilting my head. I can kindof feel stuff crackleing but it is much better now. I do this once a day and even after the first time I felt better. Hope this helps.

![]() ![]() | I have had the results of my neck scan and they are not good reading. I have a narrowing of the canal between vertabrae 3/4, I have a bulged disc between vert 4/5 and I have fragmentation on the disc between 5/6. So I am now waiting for the neuro surgeon to get in touch and talk through the options and wether they are going to operate or not. :(

It was spasiming (sp) yesterday and she iced it, and used this electromagnetic stimulation (to fatigue the muscles so she could adjust it), then she iced it again then the ultrasound. Worked so freaking well, pain free (almost) when I left.
