I only have a speed of 50.6kbps. This takes me about 3 mins to download 1mb . Fookin snail pace. Anyone know about it. I remeber it was free. I can't afford at the moment to upgrade to broadband. Much abliged of any info. |

| UK-M Swimsuit model | Myth, you cant make a modem download any faster but you can make your computer perform faster. I would suggest looking at what else is running on your computer and is connecting to the internet as this will slow your internet connection. What operating system are you using? |

So if I can't get something to increase download time is there anything I can do to keep my internet connection for a longer time. I automatically get disconected every 2 hours. This means I can only download about 38 mb of a download. If the thing I want is larger than this then I can't get it. Sometimes i use a download manager and then resume the download but you can't always use them on all servers. Any more info guys?

| UK-M Swimsuit model | yeah lorian is right about that program it does download faster by compressing the file but that isn't helping your download speed it is just making the file smaller. You are being disconnected by a setting which automatically disconnects after a certian time. Open your icon for connection to the internet - prob on the desktop if not go to 'Network Connections' from your start menu and double click the connection. Rather than clicking 'connect' click on 'properties' and this will open another window. From here choose 'Options' from the tabs at the top. One of the options is 'disconnect when idol for:' change this to a sensible time for you. Should help. |

![]() | There's always a shed load of smaller programs connecting to the net that you wouldn't know about if you didn't have a firewall. Even my epson printer came with a little program that like connecting to the net. Most programs come with auto updaters too. In a nutshell dial-up can't hack it any more, you'd be better off getting broadband. Phil |

Yeah thought it was bull but just thought I'd ask. I don't know too much about pcs. I tried doing what jamie said to keep my internet connection for longer than 2 hours at a time but I can't find the options he suggested. Anyone else know? I'm on freeserve or wanadoo as it is now.

they have some weird restrictions which means they "prioritise" the network for email and web browsing. they claim this only occurs during peak hours but as far as i can tell their definition of peak is 24hrs per day lol.

Don't bother going for all this 2mb sh1t, to be honest, unless you're really really pushed for time, theres no point. |
