Haha that's probably me you've been hearing, I tend to regurgitate alot of advice I get from guys like you to my mates who haven't done any research.

"go all way down till the dumbells almost touches the floor and when you feel your chest ripping open then go back up"

Was painful watching this poor guy getting instructed by his mate

See my previous post, nothing wrong with that, would rather see that and some kids killing themselves due to too much weight, poor form and there friend bragging that he can do more (see it to often)

Re: Funny/Stupid stuff people say to you in gym?

some funny things on here that you do come across a lot but i just tell them to f**k off usually, as what its all about is how good you look when you take your shirt off, no fault to most though as if you dont want to strip too much fat then dont as long as you make the gains you get out of it it doesnt really matter, at the end of the day its what you want.

anyhow my pet hate, before i found a pro gym i used to go to fitness first and there was a specific personnal trainer there that used to try and tell you how to do things (his way obviously) i once told him to do one and find someone else to pester, wouldn't have been so bad if he even looked like he had stepped foot in a gym but he didn't

Re: Funny/Stupid stuff people say to you in gym?

From a friend of mine''That bodybuilding thing you are going, will you end up looking like my brother?''

''all that exercise and healthy food can't be doing you any good''

A guest member at the gym ''when you and your husband have an argument, who wins the arm wrestling afterwards?''

From a now ex friend ''can you still wear a tight bikini bottom without your body piercing showing now you are slimmer?''

Best of all , from my Greek trainer this morning. I had come down with a sore throat and blocked up sinuses and a headache from hell in the night and felt terrible. Called at the pharmacy and she gave me some ephedrine tablets. Took some with the water she gave me, and felt much better by the time I got to the gym. I signed in, spoke to my trainer on reception and went to get changed. On returning to the weights room, he walked over, put his fingers under my chin to lift my head up, stared into my eyes and said........
'' And what has My Lady taken to train today then???'' LOL....can't get away with anything............

Re: Funny/Stupid stuff people say to you in gym?

A guy I know tried telling me that you have to get fat to put on muscle and then slim down. Needless to say he was a fat c**t about 18 stone who thought he was mostly muscle. Used to brag about how he was the strongest guy at his gym etc, bench pressing over 100k, then someone I know who goes to the same gym as him told me he struggles to bench 80k, I about 6 stone lighter than him and I bench more than that, so much for his 'advice'

Re: Funny/Stupid stuff people say to you in gym?

New one tonight - I was squatting

Why do you go so low
Why do you use so much weight (it was 90kg.. most guys warm up weight)
You should do them in the smith machine it's safer
When I was struggling on the widowmaker at the end someone actually shouted light weight! It was funny more than anything else

Re: Funny/Stupid stuff people say to you in gym?

No one has ever said anything stupid to me in the gym yet.

Two guys I know though did try and convince me the other day that a squat rack and a smith machine are the same thing and that its pointless to train legs.

I think my exact words were "Does your gym have a squat rack" and one of them replied "Nah mate, we don't need one anyway, we only train with free weights". An arguement then ensued because they were trying to make me out to be an idiot when I was trying to explain that a squat rack is totally different from a smith machine.

Re: Funny/Stupid stuff people say to you in gym?

i can remember a gym i used to go to there were these three lads, 1 (obviously the expert) teaching the other 2...they were quite big in a wide shoulders big arms and belly kinda way lol they'd ponce about the place in tight tops and 'strike a pose'...always did chest and then 'strike a pose' while waiting for their turn...this day i was doing back work and was on smith machine doing superset with reverse shrugs with dumbell shrugs. the expert wasnt with them and in their strike a pose position were quite obviously sniggering at me shaking their heads and looking at me using smith machine for *shock horror* something other than chest...lol...their expert came back, to which they delighted in POINTING at me and obviously saying what a dumb tw@t i am, lol their expert must have said im doing nothing wrong cos next time i saw them lol they looked at me as if i had secret exercises lmfao

Re: Funny/Stupid stuff people say to you in gym?

Best one ever for me, from a chubby little PT at JJB Fitness, Aberdeen.

I was in the changing room, at my looker sorting my straps and pre-wkt supps. At the time was using some special sweeties pre-training, emptied form blister packs into an unmarked pill bottle, along with a blend of BCAA and electrolytes during training. I also had some Whey in my gym bag. Bubba, my trainng partner of the time, was on hand, pacing around and getting his head together the workout.

Fat Trainer (on seeing my gym bag with Whey etc therein):
"None of that ****e works you know"

Me: "Errrr...that's whey protein mate, works just fine.

Fat Trainer: You know that onl costs 5 dollars to make dont you? You're just getting ripped off using that. None of these supplements do anything."

Me (opening my wee bottle and scoffing a few 5mg Dianabol): I'm sorry mate but some supplements work very well.

Fat Trainer: What the **** are those you're taking?

Me: That's methandrostenolone mate.

(Cue bubba having to stifle a guffaw)

Fat Trainer: There's no way they are doing anything for you, none of these supplements work.

Me: These work fine mate, really, they do.

Re: Funny/Stupid stuff people say to you in gym?

well not what someone said but yesterday i was doing squats (my heaviest set) and hit 200kg for 6reps and had about the other 4people in the weights room stood watching me, all apart from one skinny guy. after i finnished my set i gave someone a spot on bench, he was pressing 80kg and this one skinny guy who had ignored me squating 2.5x bw was in amazment that someone was benching so much weight!

Guy in my gym told me he was 1.7% bodyfat before a comp (wish he didnt go to due to work commitments - yea right)

1.7%...... so he was dead then...haha

The bad thing is, he trains at my gym now and again, but works at total fitness as a personal trainer!
