![]() | Shoulder Pain Been getting theis weird pain in shoulder this past couple of weeks, where the collar bone connects to the shoulder,if i hang arm down get real sharp pain, weird thing is dont feel pain when training, any ideas?:gun:

The reason: We are all doing exercises that put the shoulder joint (gleno-humeral) at a massive risk of injury and sooner or later we will all suffer the consequences. Here are the exercises that cause it, I am betting you have done all of them at some point, as have I. Chest Press Upright Row LAteral Raises Pulldown behind the neck Military press behind the neck or with dumbells either side of the head. THe only way you are gonna get better is rest and a modification of the above exercises. Chest press: do not take elbows below mid line of body ( you are a big fella so I doubt you can anyway as your chest size will prevent it. Upright row: Use dumbells, keep the arms at right angles and row upwards. Lateral Raises: Keep elbows at right angles and raise elbows (kinda like a chicken flapping its wings) Pulldown behind the neck: DONT. Pull it in front that is what the machine was designed for. Military press behind the neck: DONT. LEan the bench back one increment (on mine it is number 7) so that you are pushing slightly in front of you. THe biomechanical reasons for these are complex and I gotta get back to my Dissertation! But basically think how evolution designed your shoulder, as a caveman you never reached directly up and behind you for anything, your shoulder is much better supported when you reach or push to the front. Have a rest, then modify the exercises to prevent re-injury, shoulder imingement is degenerative and eventually requires surgery. HTH SD

| Made in Liverpool | mate i had this a while back, i ignored the pain and ended up with a clicking/crunching noise every time i moved my shoulder. a cortisone injection (from the Doctor) and 6 months rest resolved it for me. but to be honest it was a blessing for me as i just did 6 months worth of cardio ![]() im back training now with id say 90% power back |

![]() | couldnt stop training would die, must be a way i can keep training and not **** up the shoulder, do i bin bench for a while? would flyes damage it?, stop the laterals for a while?????. i do my shoulder press to front with bench and slight incline,always have, i was wondering if u think incline bench press could have caused it?????????

Incline bench is same as flat bench, don't let your elbows dip below your body line (the point at which most peoples shoulder screams). Modify the exercises as I posted earlier and if it hurts dont do it! It takes a while for this to settle down mate, my sympathies as I know from experience how frustrating it can be, the beauty of the modified exercises is that you can up your weights to compensate for shorter levers etc FLyes are V Bad also (knew there was one or two I left out!) for the same reason as the press. Just keep arms at right angles and pulse with a heavier weight, dont stretch those arms out and dont allow elbows to dip below body, this WILL feel wierd to you if you are used to deep flyes If your shoulder aches during the day ok, if it aches at night it is becoming a tendonopathy and you need to see your GP. ![]() | trained back last night, 3 heavy barbell shrugs, 3 heavy bent over rows and 2 dumbell rows, no pain what so ever, today pain seems to be easing off, will ice pack it tonight see how it goes, not training shoulders or chest for a couple of weeks see if it eases off any, go to gp u will know what they will say ohhhh weights are bad for you stop training, **** that
