Just something that was in my mind....

I used to have a serious problem, I was practically addicted to cracking my knuckes and believe it or not it took alot of effort to get out of the habit of doing it.

Alot of people believe it can give you Arthritus, but looking on the net, I think that's just a myth.

One thing it can do though is weaken your grip and hand strength, apparently.

So, who here does it??

Used to do it all the time, same with cracking my neck. Dont do either as much now.

Yes all the time. Girlfriend hates it so I tend to do it more these days

Knuckles, neck, toes, elbows, ankles...kinda gross but doesn't bother me.

I still click certain bones, my favourite is kind of a weird one....My calf muscle, you've gotta kind of put pressure on it and twist it at the same time. Feels so good though

Damn, missed out the "K" in the title!

I can do it to my shoulders and spine! But only my middle fingers???
Bruce Lee did it to his entire body. least in the movie Dragon he did haha

who do you think would win in a bone cracking cracking comp? Bruce Lee or Mike tyson?

my other half does it and it anoys the hell out of me

i crack my knuckles, wrists, elbows, shoulders, neck and spine including each vertebrae, hips, knees, ankles and middle foot frequently...

I do, both hands, including thumbs.

Also do my ankles, by pressing my foot into the floor and twisting on my ankle.

Not many people like it, so i do all the more.

They found that there wasn't just one single sound when you cracked a finger joint - there were actually two separate sounds. The joint space is the space between the bones. There is a liquid in this space, and there are ligaments on each side, holding the bones together. As you pull on the joint, you first drop the pressure in the joint space - and the ligaments get sucked in. Once this pressure gets low enough, a bubble pops into existence - making a popping sound, which is the first of the two sounds.

Now this bubble has a certain size - on average, about 15% of the now-bigger joint space. Because the joint space suddenly has a bubble in it, the liquid, just as suddenly, pushes on the ligaments - snapping them back to their original position. This snapping back of the ligaments is the second sound.

The energy set loose inside the joint is only about 7% of what you need to damage the cartilage. But if you crack your knuckles often enough, you can end up with swollen ligaments.

Another study looked at 300 people who had been cracking knuckle joints for 35 years. They had slightly swollen joints (which is no big deal). But the real surprise was that their hands were weaker - their grip strength was one quarter as strong as it should been!

So cracking your knuckles won't bother you in the short term, but 35 years from now, you might not be able to open a jar of Vegemite!

so much for your grip strength then... when you can't pick up any dumbbells !
